Tires rubbing - Jakes 6" & 09 Precedent
I think I've seen enough posts on this topic, but want to make sure I've got it right. I put 14" x 23's after a Jake's A-Arm lift kit yesterday on my 09 CC Precedent. The front is no problem at all (although there is a bit of creaking going on up there...lubrication needed?).
The main issue is the rear - whether by myself or with the kids in the back, the tires rub on the rear fender, mainly during takeoff...but also on uneven road or big bumps. If the road is smooth, once it picks up speed, no rubbing. I'm sure I could trim the fenders (probably would need much. Is this a bad idea? ( have the right tools to do it). Or, is the answer the HD springs I keep seeing pop up? After I flipped my leaf spring, and installed the ubolts and bolted everything down, gone is the curve in the spring...it stays almost flat. Is that normal? (why doesnt jakes include a replacement spring if this is a prob). Any thought on what to do here, and whether the flat spring is normal. Thanks! |

I have no exp. with a precident cart. although with a ds cart, hd leafs are almost a must. with weight of 4 passengers it almost always rubs. hd leafs do fix this. as a plus because there is usually 4 leafs it raises the rear a bit as well as increasing spring rate. although it may give you a bit rougher ride.

I don't know much about CC either but I know on Ezgo's there are shock extensions. Are your shocks fully extended? Maybe without the extenders the shocks themselves are holding the spring flat.

Re: Tires rubbing - Jakes 6" & 09 Precedent
From the pics it appears that moving the rear back about 3/4" would eliminate the problem.
So two questions........ Are the rear lift blocks in correctly? Is there any provision to re-drill the alignment pins in the blocks to "offset" them? There are other ways to move the rear back, installing the heavy duty rear leaf packs might not move the rear axle back and will definately stiffen the ride. |

Same cart, same lift, same issue... I was looking for a rear shackll lift kit or may just cut the fender like you said.... Let me know what you do....

Re: Tires rubbing - Jakes 6" & 09 Precedent
Bowslayer - I don't "think" the shocks are holding it back...although, they are pretty contracted, I dont believe they are all the way, and it doesnt seem like however much they are contracted is putting tension on them.....? (not 100% sure)
Hoof Hearted - Again, I "think" the blocks are in correctly...basically the downslope of the block is facing the front of the cart. I guess I could re-drill the indexing hole to move the axle back if that will make the difference. I don't love the thought of stiffening up the ride any more if I don't have to. Question - I was almost wondering if there was a right or wrong way to put the springs in once you raise them above the axle - in other words (obviously with the curve positioned correctly) - is the indexing alignment hole positioned dead center on the spring or not? If so, there goes that theory, but not 100% sure. The spacing between tire and fender at that problematic 10 o'clock position seems the same...?? |
