Default Replacing shackles for 2" more.

I want to raise the rear of my ST480. I was wondering if I could install lengthened shackles without a problem. I was thinking 2" at the most. I have done no other mods to the rear.

Would doing that change the dynamics of the belt drive?

The engine is bolted to the rear swing arm it moves with the rear axle.

Scoot, when I did mine (electric ezgo) I added 2" longer shackles but only gained 1" of lift. So you may want to make them longer than the lift you want.

Good luck.

Shackle "height" increases will be about 50% as said above but they also move the rear end (meaning tires) closer th the front of the fenderwells. Think of the rear end swinging in an arc on the front end of the leaf springs.

Geometry class is now in session.
The longer shackles will soften the first portion of your ride height
because they can swing easier than the short ones.
Pi R squared is not the formula but the same teacher had the class.

The one thing I noticed with longer shackles in my first truck was the increase in articulation. The rear end would flex better off road with the longer shackles. Because of the geometry involved (as stated previously) you should expect to gain about 50% lift compared to shackle length. As for this mod affecting the belt, you should be ok. Typically the rear lifts for carts involves relocating the coil over shocks, lift blocks, or something similar. With a mild lift (1 inch) you shouldn't see any negative effects relating to the belt, engine, etc. with the possible exception of the oil level indication mark on the dip stick no longer being accurate. To compensate, you could do an oil change after the lift and mark the dip stick with the new proper oil level if it has changed significantly. Good luck, and show us pictures when it's done!

Ive got the Jakes LT on front.
The rear is heavy duty leaf springs with the Jakes 2" blocks over the axles; this raised the rear of course....but its too stiff! My front suspension glides over bumps and then the rear beats me to death!
Im wondering if by adding longer shackles (say 6"-8") and maybe removing a few leafs from my heavy duty spring pack, i could ""soften"" up the ride?

Anyone done this or have any knowledge?
(Im not looking for lift, mainly softer ride in rear with "longer" shackles)

PS..if this would work, I would get new rear shocks; like something adjustable/with reservior so I could set it stiff with passengers in back seat or set them soft for no passengers on the trails.
