Default Shock Measurement Question

Quick question guys:

I'm going to replace the shocks on the rear of my lifted cart. I've search and read the forum and everyone mentions part numbers for Monroe or Napa etc... but my question is

When I measure the existing installed shock I get 10" from the bottom of the top bracket to the top of bottom bracket. For any carpenters out there, it's 10" from inside to inside of the brackets. So when I'm looking at the monroe specs, if I have 10" right now, what do I want my compressed and extended measurements to be on the new shocks? I'm assuming I want them to be a little extended when installed but I'm not 100% sure. Any suggestions???

It's a 05 gas cc DS with lift. oh and rear seat...and I have some big friends :)

Question Re: Shock Measurement Question

10" is that with the cart back on the ground with all of it's weight? That seems a little short for a lifted cart. Are the old shocks stock with extensions on them?

No extensions and that is an empty cart (no passengers) with just the weight of the cart. I think it's a 4" lift but not sure since it was on there when I got it.

Question Re: Shock Measurement Question

Measure the shock with it extended and compressed and see what you have eye to eye.

You mention brackets??? I know when I did my rears on my 87 DS the shock had a eye bottom and stud top, brackets would normally be seen in a case where the shock had stud plates at both ends. What do you have? I ask because I can give you a perfect fit shock part number from the shocks I used on mine. I have a 6" lift with HD rear springs. Found them on Ebay for a decent price.
