Default New Buggy - Lift this one or find a junker to build?

Hi guys-

Very new to all this. Just bought a 09 EZ txt/pds 36V with the intentions of putting long travel and 22's on it, along with other hunting gear.

Talking with the Jakes guys made me realize that stock electronics are probably going to get hammered under the load of the 22's and hills we have, or I might not be happy with the performance after the big tires.

I hate to do a full rebuild on this 09, and scrap a good stock controller / motor when I could find a good frame that had bad electronics cheap and do a ground up build with new electronics.

The dude at Jakes said he would find an older Club Car DS 6 battery 48 system to build up, and I will probably end up with the same money in it but have the upgraded torque motor / controller and new batteries.

The kids can ride the EZ GO.. or I could sell it stock after I am done with the build. What do you guys think about strating with an older cart and the club car ds 48v? I also know where I can get an 05 txt frame for $300, so that may be a possibility too, but I prefer a 48. I just need to make sure I don't buy a piece of shat that will have hidden problems.. lol.. or get in over my head on the build. I have pulled motors out of cars, so surely I can handle a buggy build.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

My old 1999 EZGo Txt will outrun any of the newer carts around here..... even loaded down with an 8 utility trailer on the back.

Sounds like good advice to me.

Not sure I'd go junker, but a good, complete roller.
+ 1994 EZGo
+ whatever year Club Car or Yamaha.

Parts get real limited when you get into the older carts.

I picked up a 2004 EZGO TXT series cart for my hunting cart build last year. It had been used at a lake house and had seen better days. But all the structural parts (minus the battery tray) were fine. I replaced/upgraded a lot of things on the cart though. My biggest decision was to yank out all the old drive components (controller, solenoid, wiring, F/R switch, motor) and go with an all new 650 amp 48v AC system. The install wasn't too hard since I was working with the bodies off and everything apart. Mainly making the wiring look nice and clean was what took the most time.

All in all, I would certainly do it again. Let me know if you have any questions.
