Default shimming the clutch

does putting a shim behind the spring in the clutch give you better take off?

It depends on the cart but usually it does. It will raise the rpm that the clutch engages. This will essentially give a more powerful takeoff. Be careful though, some clutches are not in good enough condition to handle it, and it can be a "neck snapping" experience.

If you go with a shim, try 1/8" or 3/16".Much more than that causes coil-bind in the spring.I tried 3/8" on one,it wasn't any different than the 3/16" and the clutch got noisy.Hope this helps.

Yeah it works on the G1. I did 3/8" and it seemed to make a difference. Take off is crisp and clean. No noises or vibrations etc.
