Default Winch help

I'm trying to figure out the best way to mount a winch on the front of my 2006 TXT, is the front axle strong enough? Has anybody used the Warn 1700dc?

It's not the axle itself you need to worry about. It's all the connections from the axle to the frame. Think about when your winching, it will pull the winch forward (or down, up, sideways, etc), which will pull the axle forward, which will pull the springs forward, then the frame. So are all those connections strong enough for those forces in those directions? Obviously EZGo never thought of that so you may have to do some reinforcing to make it all stay together.

I mounted a Badlands 2000 lb winch (HarborFreight) on the front of my 99 TXT that has a Terra Toys IFS in front. I used exhaust U bolts to attach a steel plate to the tube frame, then mounted the winch to that steel plate. Then the next connection point is where the tube frame attaches to the cart frame. And the guys at Terra Toys told me they install them all the time without any issues.

I've used the winch to drag the cart up to a sloped, snow covered, trailer deck, and to drag a 1200 lb steel firepit. Seems to work great.

The easiest way to get it done is to buy a brush guard with a winch pad built in. I use a "The Beast" brush guard and a 3k winch. If you're the handy sort, you can build your own, but my hours aren't free and it would cost me more to build what I have than to buy it already done and good to go.

i just put a factory Ezgo tube brush guard on it, i thought about trying to modify the lower loop on it to hold the winch and then make two supports to go back to the frame but i didnt know if it would be strong enough.

Thats the story of our lives when we build up these cheezy carts to do things we are doing.

There are two places to tie into the frame on mine, just above the front suspension & at the front most point of floorboards. The roof supports on the front sides actually tie into a frame rail.

As a basic rule, you want a winch with a line pull rating that is twice the weight of the rolling object you intend to drag with it. For instance, if your electric cart weighs 1,200#, you want a 2,400# minimum line pull. This is not a hard and fast rule that fits every situation, but a good general guideline.

Agreed. I would think a 2000 lbs winch is about the smallest we should install on these carts.

You can use a snatchblock to double that capacity. But then it winches 1/2 the speed too. Doesn't seem like a big deal till the rig is either sinking or tilted at a weird angle.... and then a little speed could very well help!!
