EZGO txt vs. rxv newb questions
Hello guys, this is my first post on the forum and I am a newbie to modified carts. I've been reading LOTS lately. Some really good info here, just a lot to absorb in a short time and hard to decipher what is correct and what is not. I've read several things from different posters that contradict things said by others and I'm just trying to educate myself. Also, first off I want to thank anyone willing to take their time to reply to my post offering help/info/advise. Now, here it goes:
I have recently purchased a 2003 txt. I believe from what I can tell it is a series cart (still not entirely sure exactly what that means). It has the F/R switch below the seat. I have 6 brand new U.S. Battery 2200's. The cart is bone stock. My plan is to modify the cart to use for hunting/trail riding/working on the farm. My original plan was to go ahead and buy 2 more batteries just like the ones I have, buy an upgraded controller (still confused as to which one I would need), install a lift kit, 22" tires, flip flop seat,etc..... From what I have read, I understand that I would also need to upgrade the battery cables, F/R switch, and solenoid. Correct? Now, to the next part of my question. I have began reading about the RXV and I see that some (maybe all?) of them are 48V from the factory and seem to have really good range on a battery charge. However, I am now beginning to read that they lack in the torque department when attempting to use them in off road situations/hills with larger tires. I would like to have my cart run 22-24mph out on the road, have plenty of torque to climb moderate inclines, and have good range. I'm just trying to decide if I would be financially better to upgrade what I have, or sell it in favor of a RXV which is already 48V? Are my expectations too much to ask for with a budget of a couple grand? Again keeping in mind that I already have the cart (if I keep the txt) and 6 brand new batteries. Can I get the performance I'm looking for by upgrading all the items mentioned above or am I going to have to do a motor upgrade as well? Here are some items that I've looked at and rough cost estimates (from memory). I may not even be looking at the items that I actually need. Alltrax Controller 500 amp (not sure which model exactly that I need) $600 Good set of upgraded battery cables $130 Upgraded Solenoid and F/R switch $200 2 more US Battery 2200's $200 48V charger (preferably on board) $450 (It looks like I could probably sell my current charger for around $250 so I could subtract that) Lift kit $250 Tire/Wheel combo $350 Flip Flop seat $300 That comes to $2230. I'm just thinking out loud here and I know that some of the items mentioned have nothing to do with performance. Again, I'm just trying to figure out if it's possible to get the performance that I'm looking for with a budget somewhere close to that. Again, any help and info will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! Zach |

Did you try posting this in the EZGO specific forum as well? You will probably run into more model specific expertise in that forum.
I know nothing about electric carts so I have no advice for you. |

Re: EZGO txt vs. rxv newb questions
My suggestion would be to upgrade what you have as you've listed. 6 8 volts would be better for a fit, but require a voltage reducer if you plan on running lights, radio or accessories.
If your main goal is use and not speed, your current want list works well, but since you won't need two more batteries and a new charger I would invest in a new motor or get yours respun by Plum Quick. My thought is that even if you buy a rxv because it's 48 - you will still need to lift it, tires, controller, etc.. to achieve what you want. There also seems to be much more you can do to a TXT then to a RXV Keep cart as is - get a new controller/motor/fnr for now, when batteries die, then upgrade to 6 8v's and get a reducer. my .02 |

Re: EZGO txt vs. rxv newb questions
All RXV's are 48 volt. Mine does 29mph with 23" tires, could easily accomidate 25" tires. Local golf cart store has an RXV on 25" tires and we got up to 32mph. When it comes to off road you can put bigger tires on an RXV than the TXT. As long as you have forward momentum the RXV is good. My neighbor has an 2004 TXT with a speed chip. We ride trails out around our house and mine is faster, maintains speed up hills better, rides better, and has a longer driving range. No substitute for voltage in my opinion. I would switch to the EZGO specific forum if you want more opinions if I was you.

Re: EZGO txt vs. rxv newb questions
I have a RXV and an upgraded Alltrax/PlumQuick TXT cart and both pull hills well. As for which you would want, I would keep what you have and go with your plan. RXVs are nice kick butt carts but aftermarket parts are just catching up and I do not know of an aftermarket controller. You burn up one of those and that will put a severe dent in your wallet..

Re: EZGO txt vs. rxv newb questions
Thanks for your time guys. It looks like I will keep my TXT then and have fun upgrading it. Maybe in a year or two when (hopefully) more aftermarket items become available for the RXV, I will sell it and upgrade. Here is a pic of my foundation. I hope in a couple of months it looks NOTHING like this!

Re: EZGO txt vs. rxv newb questions
I would not even consider a RXV for off-road. EXGO released 48V txt not long ago. that is the cart to have.
RXV is ac voltage which is nice for street driving, I AM NOT impressed with their offraod ability due to the limited controller output. And yes I have replaced prob 50 RXV controller in the last year I worked for my local dealer. carts ranged from lifted with 25' to bone stock off the golf course carts. as staed, i say stick to your original plans and have fun. txt parts are way cheaper than RXV carts. right before i left I had read an email stating that the RXV carts will prob go away in the nxt year or so. they cost SOOOOOOOOOOO **** much over a 48v TXT. |
