Using ATV tires
For all of you guys running ATV tires, are you running the air pressure written on the tire? What about the weight ratings on some of these tires, they seem to be close to the weight of the cart without passengers?
Thanks Rob |

Re: Using ATV tires
I run mine rather soft(5-7psi)My rears are a very stiff tire and setting them up around 20psi would be a terrible ride. The weight-rating doesn't really come into play unless you were running it down the road at high speed for a really long time and would build up enough heat in the tire at rated pressure to cause failure.I have ATV tires on all of our carts, load them with trailers when doing yard-work,the tires hardly even squat,I've never lost one yet.Hope this helps.

Re: Using ATV tires
I run mine at 20. I had them lower but the rear would sway like crazy. Not to safe flying around the neighborhood lol

Re: Using ATV tires
I run the rears at 14-15lb and the fronts at 7-8lb. The front of the cart is pretty light and it helps it turn better on trails at speed. I run more in the rears because the cart is faster that way and I often haul loads of stuff or trailers on the back. If I didn't have a dump box and the shocks jacked up harder, I would likely only run 12-14 in the rears and it would ride nicer. My tires say 5psi or something, they are stiff tires but squat at 5psi and slow the cart down a fair amount with stock power. The cart sways some and feels pretty strange. But my tires have a round shape to the tread, they are taller with more air and only the center hits the ground so it depends on what kind of tire you have. Some tires like the all trails are more flat tread unlike my trail pro tires.

Re: Using ATV tires
Great info guys, I am looking at the 25 or 26" Duro Power Grip Radials rated for 7psi, a lot of the reviews for these tires do say that being a radial these are a lot flatter tread than all the others
Thanks Rob |

Re: Using ATV tires
Keep in mind that some of the radials are quite a bit heavier than bias-type.I know from our 4-wheelers that you will notice a heavier tire,it will reduce power. If your cart is basically stock, keep this in mind when shopping, look at the tire-weights.Hope this helps.

Re: Using ATV tires
It is so hard to find any good info on any of the websites, even Duro's website does not show weight. I guess I'll have to go 90% of the way threw buying them to at least get a shipping weight.

Re: Using ATV tires
By "Stock" I'm referring to the drivetrain. If you have a stock-motor you will notice the slightest changes,My cart has a 42cu.inch twin,It doesn't notice anything other than gas-cans!!I taught my Twin-Boys last-year when we were out in the trails(they were 3!)You are only Stuck if someone tows you out, other than that, you are just Hung-Up!Even if it takes a 1/2-hr. to get out..No-Tow,Not Stuck!

Re: Using ATV tires
I am running the Duro Red Eagle 25 x 10 x 12s on mine at 10 psi front and rear. It rides and handles nice with very little squish on the rear tires. I'm sure it would go a fuzz faster and go a little longer on a charge with more air in the tires but the streets are rough and it already goes 23-24 mph and 15+ miles on a charge as is, if driven right.
