Does a Long Travle lift give a smoother ride?
I know very little about long travle lifts. I have read alot of post about them and heard nothing but good. My main question is do they give you a smoother ride? I have a 2012 EZGO Express w/13.5 hp kawasaki engine, and love it. It is already lifted (4" I thnk) but it does have a very rough ride off road. I would like to smooth it out, but can't justify spending the mony to put a long travle lift on it if it does not improve the ride.

The difference is like night and day. In my opinion, its well worth the money.

long travel kits are like putting a four wheeler suspension on a golf cart...like boke says its a night and day diff...and 100 % worth every penny if you want a smoother ride.

There is one small problem, most all LT kits are front suspension only.

Re: Does a Long Travle lift give a smoother ride?
One thing you should be aware of is the difference between the stock turning radius and the long travel turning radius. I can't speak for every application, but I put a Stretch Plastics long travel on my 88 Club Car and the difference is substantial enough to warrant me mentioning. I like my long travel, but the 2 things I don't like about it are the turning radius and the difference in wheel widths. Even with 2" spacers on the rear the front is still wider by an inch or 2. Definately rides better though.

BTW, I've seen the Jakes LT rear kit. But for some reason I'm not sold that it's going to handle 2 people sitting on the back of a cart &/or a trailer full of whatever being towed behind it. It just doesn't seem very substantial. |

Re: Does a Long Travle lift give a smoother ride?
On my big cart I did lengthen the steering arm so I could keep the stock turning radius...
But that's a moog point because you can't buy that LT anymore. On my gas cart I hand crafted a rear LT which makes a nice ride all the way around. But on my electric I just left the leafs and boy do the girls in the back complain! |

Re: Does a Long Travle lift give a smoother ride?
Thanks Guys! All great food for thought. I would not have considered turning radius and pay load capacity. Already contacted Jake's to inquire about a LT for my 2012 Express. I'll be calling Allsport as well. I appreciate all the comments, keep em coming!

Re: Does a Long Travle lift give a smoother ride?
I never had a stock suspension system to compare to, but my limo cart has four wheel independent air ride suspension and it's smooth as glass. The front of my cart has a heavily modified Jake's LT kit. If I were lifting a stock cart again, I wouldn't hesitate to put another Jake's kit on it. Keep in mind, this was done to a Yamaha G14, and the Jake's kit was only used on the front of the cart. The rear portion is still sitting in my garage, never installed.
The only draw back I found for the Jake's kit was the instructions were a bit lacking, and the pictures were terrible. If you go that route, go to the Jake's site and download the PFD version of the instructions just to have better quality pictures (handy for figuring out how things are supposed to go together). Good luck with your project! Kelly |
