Default Dumb lift question of the day...

On the rear lift of my club car, I got new U-bolts and shock mounting plates.
Since I will not be mounting the shocks to this plate, do I still need to install the brackets on the u-bolts? It's easier to put together without the plates. Is there some structural thing I don't understand, or can I just skip these brackets and put the u-bolts directly over the springs?

Thanks.
Mark

I'm at work, so I don't have a picture. It is the All Sport 6 inch lift. It has one large u-bolt that fits over the spring, axle, and through the brake cable attachment plate. There is a shock mounting plate that goes on top of the spring, but there is no where to attach the shock. (you use the existing attachment points for the shock) This plate serves no purpose unless it is a structural thing. The u-bolt would rest on this plate instead of the spring.

It is a structural thing!
The leaf spring should have a center stud that should fit in the hole of the plate,
It holds everything into place better! Use the plate!
