Help lifting Yamaha g1
Hey guys I am wanting to lift my Yamaha g1 cart but do not want to spend the 300 dollars for the kit. I think I can make one my self and I want to know how to go at this job. I only want a 4" 5" lift MAXIMUM no crazy 8 " lifts:p
Thanks |

Re: Help lifting Yamaha g1
Do you have access to steel and a welder? And do you know how to weld?

Unless you can fabricate steel, I wouldn't recommend making your own. Bad welds and poor geometry can end a life. Be careful.
If you can fab, then making a lift isn't that difficult. Do a search here and you'll find lots of threads where people have done this on a G1. |

Welcome to BGW. Listen to these guys. I've heard and believe that a suspension system is not the area that you want to be cheap!!

Yes I can weld and I just didn't know what to use such as metal. Angle iron? Regular 1" steel strips?

Re: Help lifting Yamaha g1
I built a 6" lift kit for my G1. Used 1/4"x4" steel flat stock. Not a hard job just requires a little time to make sure that the holes are exactly the same in all the pieces.

Re: Help lifting Yamaha g1
Good way to make it out of plates like that is tack weld them all together then drill all the holes, throw them on the floor to break apart. You are moving the arms down your lift or close to it, about what 2" since the rest is from larger tire diameter. You usually have to move the front arms forward some to clear the frame if you run 22s. Then make a mount for the shock top or bottom to jack that up similar amount. Make mounts to push the rear shocks down on top mount and you are set. May have to trim around the rear tire to clear or mod the body/rocker/wheel well depending on lift height and tire size/shape. Most people make a riser for the tie rod end on the spindle, I didn't and it does not turn as sharp, but I didn't move my arms I cut and rewelded the spindle area instead. Yes I used to weld daily lol.
Whatever you do, look up some posts on them here and check out how they did it. Its not hard but do it the way that will work for you. Some put a receiver in the middle so they can put a hitch or whatever in it. I put a U bent rod loop on mine to tow and trailer with. |
