Default 92 Marathon Build All Around Rig

Here is the beginning of the build of my 92 Marathon. Picked it up off of craigslist for $225. Needs a motor. The 295cc that was in it was run out of oil and seized up. Plans include a big block of some sort. Not really focused on the powertrain at this moment, more effort being put into the suspension and lift kit at this point. I fabbed up a 7.5" lift for the front that is about 75% complete. Not 100% sold on how it looks just yet, but im working it out slowly so that its done right and looks good. Here are some pictures of how i got it and the prgress of the tear down.

Here are some more pics of the progress since the tear down. Got the front axle taken off and spindle mounts cut off and tubes welded in place. The front lift ended up being about 7.5" tall and the tubes added 6" in width to the axle, and i was concerned at first but after seeing it at ride height, it fits. Ive decided that i am moving the rear sub-frame / axle assembly back 5" and down 2" to gain some wheel length. Havent gotten to figure out rear spring and shock mounts but that will be next on the list. The last picture shows the cart as it will sit at ride height and length. From the floor of the garage, to the floor of the cart measures 19.5".

I have been doing something similar to my 94. got it from a golf course with a dead 295. i cut the front axle apart since it was bent, and added 8" lift and 4" in width.
on the rear, i put 1/4 tread aluminum under the carriage for the motor. i cut all of the mounts out from the old motor. using a yanmar 10HP diesel for the powerplant. still slowly doing this, tryting to not make any mistakes (never happens). I had some shackles built for teh front of the carriage to drop it to an acceptable angle. I actually made another set just in case if you are interested. ill have to visit speedway for steering parts to raise and lengthen them, and ill need automotive shocks to finish it off. i also have some rear 4" lift spacers that i wont be using either if youre interested.

Been outta the loop for a little while but i have made some progress on the cart. The front end is just about done. Just need to do some final welding and it will be ready to go. I was able to move all of the steering components out of the way and raised it up so that it all hides behind the axle. The rear of the cart got dropped 2" and lengthened 5". I also aquired a Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 13 hp motor that will be going in next.

So i need some advise / criticism from you guys. Im debating on redesigning the front axle of the cart. I had originally thought that i would run it the way i have it for now and then fab an IFS system for the front of it, but i am re-thinking the whole scenario. Now i am wondering if i just design a kick *** solid axle (its the way i prefer my trucks to be so why not my cart) and ditch the whole IFS idea all together. I know that IFS would be nice for comfort off road, but lets be honest, its a golf cart, how comfortable does it really need to be. Im getting the itch to get back on this thing and get some progress made but i have a few other things going on that need attention first. As soon as those are done im gonna commit a bunch of nights to the cart. Need to have it done before the spring cuz CLUBCAR5 is gonna half *** his cart together and i need to be able to run him over with mine.

Give me some feedback.

Whatever you choose to do, keep in mind that you'll never get close to CLUBCAR5. So just slap it together and if the front end falls off on your first test ride, I'll be there to pull you home!

So i have decided to fabricate a new front solid axle from scratch. Funds are a little tight right now and unfortunately the IFS will have to wait. Not a big deal. I have the axle designed and tube sitting in the garage ready to be cut and welded. Ill keep everyone posted on the progress. Should look alot better than how it does now when im done.

Here is an update on my cart. I wasn't to happy with the original front end on my cart so I decided to build another one. I changed the design of it so it didn't look so square and also gained a few inches of wheelbase by adding some brackets that moved the leaf spring mounts back which in turn moved the axle forward. I have a couple other gussets to weld on for the 2 link system that will help stabilize the axle on landings and rough terrain and then I will be able to turn my focus towards mounting the Briggs 13hp motor.
