Car wheels on yamaha gas g16....help.....
Hi All,
I have a 1999 Yamaha g16 gas powered golf cart. I plan on doing a 6" lift. I like the look of wheels that most of guys seem to choose but they seem to be to expensive for me. Nice wheel with large offroad tire. I can get a decent set of 17" aftermarket Honda wheels and low profile tires for under $300 on Craigslist. Will the weight of a car wheel cause the golf cart to wear out earlier? Are there any issues that I may run into. Will I need to cut the body or get wheel spacers? Does anyone know the weight of a 12" golf cart rim with a 22" tires? The cart will mainly a street cart used by my children. Not really into going extremely fast or anything. I don't want to be fixing alot either. Can anyone show pics of there golf cart with car tires and provide any experiences that they have had. Thanks, |

The 4x100mm bolt pattern used on many import cars is very close to the 4x4 inch pattern used on golf carts and I've read that they bolt right on. As for the need for spacers, that may depend on your cart and the lift you choose. Many lift kits will move the front tires out increasing track width and stability (but not all of them do this). You may try to decide on a lift, then see if you can borrow a set of wheels like the ones you want and test fit them for clearance. This involves loading the cart as you normally would (with passengers, etc.) and checking for clearance with the steering locked at full turn both directions. On some carts (and some lifts) you may be able to remove the front spring and shock so that you could suspend the cart on jack stands and cycle the suspension manually while checking for clearance. Good luck with your project! Kelly |
