Question Tire inconsistency gripe

I can't be the only one that has experienced this, but maybe the only one to such a degree......

So, if anyone followed my bumpy cart thread in the electric club car section, you probably read the saga unfold. Since these are all over sized tires I'm having issue with though, I wanted to open a thread here to hear what problems others have had with tires/wheels to see if it's just me or if there is just a quality control problem over in China.

For example:

Two tires/wheels from different manufacturers pictured here.
Left: STI HD2se 10x7 wheel with Excel Sahara Classic 22x11-10 tire mounted.
Right: Fairway Alloy Prestige 10x7 wheel with EFX Blade 22x11-10 tire mounted.

Above it's not too different looking, right? Well check this shot with positions same respectively:

I experienced these same differences between a set of Carlisle 20x10-10 tires as compared to Excel sahara classic 20x10-10 tires. In this case, the Excel Sahara Classic was much larger.

In working with multiple different tire dealers and manufactuers recently over about 5 different sets of bumpy tires, both original purchase and warranty replacement, they've all acted like I was crazy and just trying to get some free tires or something.

I can't be the only one that has had or noticed this level of inconsistency. Both STI and Fairway Alloy (Colorado Components) wheels have "made in china" on the back, and I'm guessing the tires are made there too.

What gives? Why no quality control? Why no set standard for a tire size? Am I really the only one or is it that I am too picky or crazy?

I would assume that since they are not DOT approved tires and are not rated for any speed(offroad only), they do not have to pass any kind of QC. I know that you can put DOT approved tires side by side that are of different brands side by side (same aspect ratio)and they will be different sizes too.

Both tires pictured are stamped as DOT approved.

I'm no tire pro but here are my casual observations. 1. one tire appears to be a 21 the other a 22 2. Sidewalls look different 3. If I'm not mistaken the EFX is much more expensive. There is no doubt a big difference!
I don't think your cheap or crazy. I think most of us buy 4 at a time so it doesn't get noticed. I really don't think much of anything we buy for our carts isn't from China, guess is we wouldn't want to afford American if it were available. If your looking for Chinese QC,well, we've all been there.
I hope the tire gurus show up to help you. Good luck.

There is definitely inconsistencies between brands on sizing, from Lawn-Mowers to Semis'.I worked for a tire-shop in the early 90's,and nothing was the same brand to brand.Since that time I have been involved with Heavy-Trucks,and we never saw any consistencies between brands(the recaps were actually closer than the Virgin-tires!).The best bet is to pair them up,put the larger ones on the rear, and forget it.If anyone critisizes your cart for that, tell them to buy you a new set.!

That is normal with different tires, more so with atv I would say. They can make the tires roughly any size they want. One tire can be more rounded (center of tread touches ground) and another flat (all of tread touches) and apply to different uses. My 22s measure 23 when I put 15psi in them so they stand up, with stock power they slow the cart down if I don't (on the rear, the fronts I run at . Now I have a clone engine its not an issue so much, but does change handling and ride.

Its been common here if someone has clearance issues with a lift only certain tires fit, and others will not.

I only recommend you get an ATV rated tire, they are much better than 2 ply and don't get punctures so easily.

I have also noticed that. I used to run the All Trail 23x10.5x12 tires and they were smaller than most 22" tires I ran. When I got into the low profile tires, I see the same thing. I run Duro Excel Tourer tires 215/40/12 and they are a fat, low profile tire. I recently bought some 215/40/12 Excel Classic tires and even thought they are labeled as the same size, they are quite a bit smaller. I do realize the overall height and width will vary depending on wheel width, but these are way different in size.
