Wheel Spacers or Offset Wheels Needed?
I just lifted my '87 Club Car using the Allsports SS 6" Double-A-arm lift kit. I want to run 22" tires but would like to know what kind of wheel spacing I'll need, if any. I know that I'll likely need to either run spacers or maybe 2+5 offset wheels on the front (for the tires to clear the kingpins), but will this also be necessary on the back? I'd like to stick with stock 8" wheels.
This is my cart right now. Stock center-offset wheels on the stock 18" tires. I have no rubbing issues at all right now. But I'm sure adding bigger tires may change that. |

A lot of it is the look your after.. the off set rims should keep it from rubbing but some like the wider look / stability from adding the spacers to..

If it came down to it I'd rather run the offset wheels (cheaper than spacers). But I just wanted to know if I needed them for the back or if I could get away with re-using my stock wheels and no spacers.

You probably won't NEED spacers on the rear. Believe me though, when you look down the side of your cart and see that the front is 1.5 - 2" wider on both sides than the rear, you'll likely want them. Santa brought me 2" rear spacers for Christmas. I was extremely pleased with the look after the install.

Re: Wheel Spacers or Offset Wheels Needed?
IMO a lifted cart with no offset or spacers on the wheels is dangerous unless it is governed to a low speed. Guess it all depends on your use but I ran one and I deemed it unsafe. Now that cart is driven by a retired woman who never goes over 12mph or so, but her son does not even like to drive it. The governor is turned in and it will do a scary 25 or something.
Most lifts will rub with the 10-12" wide tires most people put on there because the tires are wider than the wheels. Most cart wheels are 7". The ones I saw that way they use 22x8-8 tires, skinny tires. You can find offset wheels pretty cheap these days so I'm not sure why anyone would not use them...but your choice. We trail ride and stability is very important or you could have a bad time. |

Re: Wheel Spacers or Offset Wheels Needed?
Offset wheels on a lifted cart are a necessity IMHO for stability. Clearance is secondary, but also important. I build some odd things (barstool racers, radio flyer racers, etc) but if my wife or kids are going to ride it, it needs to be as safe as I can make it.

You can buy 8"-steel wheels that look just like the originals, with 2"/5" offset for under $20 each, and they come White,Silver,Black, and sometimes Ivory(Club-car color). You will like the look and the improved stability.Hope this helps.

I would tell anyone to get alloys because they look so much better and not like you will be buying wheels all the time (usually once), but some people like steel wheels and thats fine. Some of the alloys are not very expensive either considering what you get. My wheels are douglas kart wheels.

Re: Wheel Spacers or Offset Wheels Needed?
I'll probably go with the 2+5 offset 8" steelies at $16 apiece. I have a local golf cart parts/service place that stocks them. Does anyone know how wide a tire I can run with these before rubbing? I was thinking of going 22x11.50x8, that should work, right?

22"x11"-8" should be fine, sometimes even 22"x12"-8s' will fit good.I suggested the steel-wheels since you were happy with your original wheels.I run steel, since mine is used on rough,off-roading,and they get beat up.
