Will a long travel lift smooth out ride
I currently have a 2007 txt with 6in allsports drop axle, stock springs and shocks. Its is driven street only. 600 amp alltrax, 20x10x10 scorcher street tires and rear seat. Will a long travel lift kit make for a smoother street ride over what I have and which one is best. I also have Jakes front discs. Any and all info to help decide will be appreciated. Plus they really look great.

Re: Will a long travel lift smooth out ride
On anything other than smooth pavement it will ride better. The travel on the LT kits is amazing and the small bumps will almost disappear. The biggest improvement will be off road. What used to be choppy and hard on the kidneys will be much more tolerable. The rear suspension will remain as is unless you decide to modify it with softer shocks/springs/air shocks/3 link setup/etc.

Re: Will a long travel lift smooth out ride
Definitely improves the ride in the bumps. Still need to do something in the rear to improve that too though (3 or 4 link?).
Plus I think they tend to sway a bit more in the corners. |

Re: Will a long travel lift smooth out ride
i did jakes lt on a old marathon because the bumps and roots kill my back and neck after a 2 hr ride im shot..i didnt get 50 ft and even the wife said WOW,what a difference..but a big price as i got the steering box 2001.5 and up kit..but my steering has never been this good with a any cart..awesome!
it didnt take but a few rides and now im doing the 3 link rear, but it will be a while till its in the cart.. its also fun hitting bumps on purpose to watch the front end do it job |

Thanks for the replies. I will probably do the jakes, that way my disc brakes will just bolt on, the all sports looks heavier. I will have some research left though before I pick.

Re: Will a long travel lift smooth out ride
Usually lifts that come with new shocks (the LT lifts) are better ride, the stock shocks might be worn and are for couple inches travel they just don't work well for big suspension. You can find some improvement if you fit the right atv/bike shocks on your cart, if you can figure out what ones work well. Still will not have much more travel like a real LT lift does but they help. If you have a big travel lift and stock shocks for sure I would find out what other shocks work and try some. Note if you have leaf springs, you will have get rid of them or change them to change the ride....when I say shocks I mean coil overs that have the springs on them as many carts use.

Re: Will a long travel lift smooth out ride
I think I have a plan for a 3 link rear. I already have the engine carrier on a single heim joint. I need to build the front section that bolts across the frame rails. I'll do trailing arms similar to Scottyb's.... DOM with a pair of Ebay bungs/heims. And for the axle mounts, I think I'm going to do a clamp similar to Stech's. Looks like a piece of 3" channel welded to a small section of 1" channel (or whatever the shock will fit into) and the 4 big U bolts.
Biggest issue I have is what shock to use. Anyone put any thought into specifically what shock to use? Seems like air would be good to adjust for weight in the back or not. And coilover is good for soaking up the bumps. Or maybe just use a Rhino/Razr rear shock?? One more question.... what about using the front leaf spring mounts for the leading end of the trailing arms?? It shortens the arm length by about a foot. What effect would it be on the suspension performance? It would eliminate the cross piece across the frame rail.... which I'm sure adds a lot of frame strength, but weighs a lot too. Thinking of doing a "short travel rear lift" first & seeing what the effect is on the ride. In my case that would involve removing the rear leafs, and installing trailing arms & better shocks. If it doesn't work out, I can always build longer trailing arms & a frame cross section. |

Re: Will a long travel lift smooth out ride
stretchs reverse 3 link uses the front spring hangers iirc..the shorter outter arms have to work as the pics i have of scottyb,s build show them in line with his engine cradle mount"pics in my 3 link thread".
i did 3 ft long arms yesterday and a crossmember to mount under my feet just in front of the gas pedal.with hiems on each end..pics will be up in th thred today i will also be doing a double joint on the engine cradle similar to scotty since im going for max articulation in the long run.. shocks are the easy part when thinking bout it,just hard to swallow on my wallet lol..i thought about air shocks myself, but w/out a coilover in the rear,if something went wrong we wouldnt be driving the cart home..i also found air shocks on ebay for a vw that has my intrest, but i no i need coilovers but the ones that i need/want cost 400 bucks and up a pair..but to get the most from my rear build i no thats what i really need..i may go cheap in the beginning then save for better ones |

Re: Will a long travel lift smooth out ride
Look forward to seeing what you have done, Sassy. Seems like from the gas pedal to the rear axle would be a lot more than 3'.
What do you suppose the chances of something like this working in our application? |

Re: Will a long travel lift smooth out ride
i see others have used them in your pic but they cant articulate much at all,but they would dampin the ride a lot and feel cushy on a regular golf cart id think.
my x member will fall like 6-8 inches behind the pedal just a guestiment updating my 3 link thread as we speak |
