CC 8" lift with 25's
So my son & I are going to start working on our '86 CC in April. Doing a clone swap and have a few lift questions. Already have a set of Carlisle 25" AT489 and will be getting some 10" wheels to. I'd love to go long travel but that isnt in the budget right now. I see most of the 6" kits are only for 23" but some may fit 25". So which way do I go? This will be an offroad buggy, used for hauling out our deer I dont expect a terrific offroad ride but dont want 1 or 2" of suspension travel either. Here's the last pic I took of the custom rack we made for the front.

Allsports has a 7.5" Super Sport double A arm lift kit that will accommodate up to a 26" tire. I have one on my DS with 25" tires. It rides nice and doesn't rattle your teeth lose while off roading.

Re: CC 8" lift with 25's
here's another question then. Should we install the lift kit before we do the clone swap? I've heard you have to change some things around with the swap if it's a lifted cart like the engine mounting plate, brake cables, throttle cable etc.

I would. You have to change lots of stuff, lifted or not. And some of these motors are too tall to put in without a lift.
Love the rack. That's awesome. |

Re: CC 8" lift with 25's
Thanks. The rack was my design & my 12 year old son welded it all together. His first time welding & my first time teaching LOL We have to add a little on the front since we just picked up a 2,000 pound winch :D Should have the lift kit ordered next week & we'll tackle that first. Going with a GX390 clone for the engine. Already have the belt and some misc parts from CPP that it needed.

Nope it was seized when we bought it. That'll happen when you run it with no oil LOL

Re: CC 8" lift with 25's
Well my son & I are back to work on the cart. Feels like we are making some good progress. After looking thru the options, we decided AGAINST a store bought lift kit. Started on the rear lift, figured that would be the easy one to do.
Axle coming out New perches welded on the top of the axle housing Lift blocks fabbed up out of some 2" square tubing. I drilled a 1/2" hole in the top for the leaf spring to locate on, and a 9/16" hole on the bottom of them which I put a flanged nut thru from the inside and welded in place. This locates the block on the axle tube. Also made some locators for the bottom spring perch to the motor/suspension plate that way as long as the clamps stay in place, stuff can't move around. New tires and rims for the rear Carlisle AT489 25x11x10 :) And the front suspension for it I scored for free from a friend YAY! |
