mounting atv tires on golf cart wheels

Do atv tires have a different bead then golf cart wheels?. I'm mounting some 23x10x10 atv tires on some 10x8 golf cart wheels now and they dont seem to be seating up. The tires call for 36lbs of air to seat bead and I have 40lbs in there now. should I put more air in them? You help is much appreciated, thanks.

They can be tough to seat sometimes.Put some dish soap or WD40 on the beads.Also try bouncing the tire like a basket-ball(watch your fingers don't get pinched when you catch it on the return-bounce!!!).Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried dish soap and bouncing them when i mounted them. They look like they just arent seated up all the way. The tires don't stick out past the wheel like I think they should and that's what made me think maybe they are not compatible. Are all atv tires compatible with golf cart wheels?

Quick question, I don't know what the temps are in OR this time of year, but have the tires been sitting outside in the cold for awhile before you started working on them? When I had my tires mounted (at an ATV shop, mind you) they had trouble seating the beads. I think it was mainly because they sat outside in my freezing cold garage for a week or so before I had them mounted. If you're having an issue seating them I'd try bringing them inside and sitting them near a heat register or fireplace to get them warmed up so the rubber expands a bit. Might do the trick.

Alot of ATV tires have a Bead-Protector,or Bead-saver.It is a section of the sidewall that sticks out to protect the edge of the rim,preventing damage to the rim-lip,and the tire-bead.This may be why you think they aren't seated.If the edge is flush,or just past the rim,and its' holding air,all is good!Hope this helps.

My tire guy uses a big strap that has some sort clamp that he puts around the center of the outside of the tire and then as he tightens the strap it pushes the bead outward. Then he puts the air to it and it seems to help alot on the tough ones.

I have Interco Super Swamper Vampires on my golf cart wheels. The tires are 26x9.50x10 on 10x7 ITP's. I had my tires mounted at a local automotive tire shop so I don't know how much trouble they encountered mounting the tires. When I worked at a tire shop in my late teens we used a tire lubricant that was like a very thick and slippery soap concoction to mount tires. If you can't tell if your tires are mounted properly you should consider taking them by a tire store and getting them to look at them for you. I paid about $10 to have all four tires mounted and I didn't buy the tires or wheels from the store that did the mounting, and that included chrome valve stems. All I can say is be very careful when mounting tires because too much air could cause the tire to explode or damage the bead.

Here is a picture of my tire on the wheel. I was thinking the bead of the tire should be out past the wheel. What do you think?

If the bead of the tire was out past the wheel, the tire would dismount. It appears to be mounted correctly in the photo. However the pressure you listed seems pretty high, in our 4x4 atvs, we only run around 8-10psi if I remember correctly.
