New and need some advice!
What brand of cart would you guys suggest getting? I want to put on at least a 6" lift. I've heard that the club cars are the cadillac because they have an aluminum frame. I have a nice 2004 EZ-GO lined up for $3000 that isn't lifted yet.

well if your looking for doing custom work, go with EZGO, because i dont think you can weld on aluminum, and if the frame snaps on a club, im pretty sure your screwed, but then agan im all for EZGO because i have one =]

You weld aluminum with aluminum........ They are all welded at the factory and can be rewelded again and again.

Re: New and need some advice!
A lot of local welding shops have TIG or heliarch welders and do a nice job with these simple repairs. The hard stuff is the battery boxes where the corrosion gets into the metal and makes it un-pure, and that is a common area needing repair in 20 yr. old carts. We usually cut & chisel out the corroded supports and bolt in new stuff for battery tray repairs.

Re: New and need some advice!
Unless you are an experienced welder don't try welding aluminum. You have to have some good equipment to TIG/Heliarc it. I have a Miller Syncrowave that has the high frequency needed to TIG aluminum and if your going to weld the frame of your cart it needs to be done very well. If you have a little welding experience and have a welding machine, choose EZGO, Yamaha, Columbia, Par Car, Harley, they all have carbon steel frames and you have more choices in where your imagination can lead you. I'm just giving a little welding advice, I can do that since I've been a welder for over 30 years and I have a cart that I built that will run over 100 MPH safely.

Re: New and need some advice!
Before attempting to weld on your Aluminum club car frame I strongly suggest you get some scrap aluminum to practice on. If you don't I fear you will end up in worse shape. Welding aluminum is a whole different animal than welding steel.
Buy the right tools to do the job or take it to a professional. With practice you can repair small weld joints with a DC Aluminum welding rod. The next best way is with a spool gun. The absolute best way to weld aluminum is with a TIG machine capable of welding aluminum. |
