Re: club cart clutch problems
I'm not sure I had problems with holes burned in the driven clutch because of my lift and tires. Yearning for more torque, I sent it to Tom @ CPP and he said my driven clutch was about near worn through in several places. After 25 years of service...the aluminum was pretty worn out.
How old is your driven clutch? There may be correlation with the age of the clutch and the necessary torque to drive the big tires/lift. I think it would be hard to justify the lift caused the issues. The clutch was most likely just worn out. How loose is your belt? Ted |

Re: club cart clutch problems
I would say that your usage patterns are more likely to blame than the lift in and of itself. I mean, it's more plausible that rough riding and or 'stalling' of the cart while the belt is spinning like mad, would eventually wear out the clutch. My cart is an '88, so I can understand why my driven clutch would have been nearly worn out.
I have no notion of the average lifespan of the sheaves on a driven clutch, 12 years seems like it's well within what I would expect, especially if you're beating the snot out of it on wet terrain. Sounds like fun, regardless! A new driven clutch is 209.99, plus the following optional parts: $49.00 for the high strength torque spring, and another $45.00 for machining (even more increased torque) and then another $50.00 for the heavy duty belt. It's all been attributed for... yes you guessed it... more torque. Kind of makes a guy wonder if all that increased torque will simply transfer the weak spot to the rear end. I guess we'll see. :) My parts are due in Thursday. Giddy up! Ted |
