Newbie questions on EZGO TXT
Hi, I've been doing a little reading here the last couple of days and am new to golf carts and electric motors. I've been wanting one for a long time and just had a friend give me a 2001 EZGO TXT with a Series motor I believe. I have a few questions for yall. The cart has been sitting for a couple of years and I'm getting it going (new batteries, brake cables, had a broken leaf spring I just replaced.) I'm going to drive it stock for a little while before doing any mods to it to make sure the motor is good. My questions are about upgrades. My plans are for a 6 inch Jakes lift kit and 22" tires. Will the series motor be ok turning the 22s stock? If not what is the best performance mod for the series motors that doesn't break the bank. The cart is going to be used mainly for riding around the property and some hunting. Terrain isn't overly rough or hilly but some creek crossings. thanks for any input.

Re: Newbie questions on EZGO TXT
Taylor, with the larger tires, the motor itself will be fine, what will be needed to upgrade would be the controller, SD solenoid, the HD f/r switch, and the cables.....
BTW, CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

To find the parts Sir Nuke listed above go to www.cartsunlimited.net. ScottyB will be able to fix you up when you are ready.

before you buy anything, especially since this is your first cart, KNOW what you want or expect your cart to be able to do. How are you going to use it? is your area flat? hilly? are you going to use it off road (hunting buggy)...... these will make a difference as to what you need. For example.....you said your cart is a SERIES cart.....well is it fast enough as it sits? you made mention of using the stock motor.....regardless of the controller, solenoid, f/r switch/cables you will not gain any speed, UNLESS you upgrade to a 48v system......or you can change the gears in the diff, or get a high speed motor. but there is a trade off between speed and torque. It really depends on how you entend to use your cart. the best advice I can give you is the seriously think about how you wull actually use your cart..... once you have decided what you need your cart to do, give ScottyB a call at Carts Unlimited and set up a plan on the pieces/parts you will need to make it happen. Oh as far as the solenoid and f/r switch......i would highly recommend getting ALL of it from ScottyB |

Re: Newbie questions on EZGO TXT
Ok, since my budget will only allow me to do this in steps will it hurt to run everything stock for a while after I install the lift and tires?

Re: Newbie questions on EZGO TXT
as long as you are not running it HARD, it will be ok.......for a while. I say this because once you put the taller tires on, your motor will draw more amps.....will cause more heat and wear on all of the components. I don't want to scare you here.....like I mentioned before, it all depends on the way you use your cart. When I bought my cart, it was already lifted, had 23" tires on it....and everything else was stock and had been that way for a couple of years....but it was a neighborhood cruiser, and it's FLAT here.....so everything was fine.

I have ran my PDs cart for about 10 years stock with 6" lift and 22s it was ok and I was happy until I rode on a friends cart with almost the same setup except for a 500 amp controller and it was night and day torque it was amazing
