Default clutch question

I have an 89 Club Car, 6" Jakes double A-arm lift, 12" wheels and tires. Ever since adding the tires and wheels, the cart surges when taking off like the clutch is not engaging. I have ordered a power spring kit and new drive belt, will this solve the problem? Thanks!!

Doing what you're doing sounds like a good start.

Sounds like what mine was doing. I solved the problem by rebuilding the clutch. Specifically, replacing the slider buttons. See my other post about it. Solved the jerking/surging problems!

I ran into a similar problem with my workhorse. I took the clutch off and had a local dealer inspect the clutch. The inside was trashed and could not be rebuilt. I installed a new factory clutch (big block, no need for any trickery). The larger wheels and tires could have caused the weakness in the clutch to show up sooner than if you had the factory wheels and tires. Inspect the internal components of the clutch or have a reliable dealer do it for you. If the insides are not destroyed you can rebuild with the parts you ordered plus new buttons (ramps, slides, or whatever you want to call them). Keep us posted.

I'm happy to report that the cart takes off like champ now. I installed the power spring, new buttons, drive belt and starter belt (figured i'd do this while i was down there). Everything went really smooth, also installed heavy duty springs as well. Was a little afraid they would be really rough riding, but was pleasantly surprised at how well the cart rides. The shocks were shot, probably will replace those, did not put them back on but do i really need them??? Don't do any off roading or anything, the kids primarily use it to ride around at the lake. Anyone not running shocks??

I have the EzGo heavy duty springs front and rear with the Allsports High 5 lift kit. I have factory (new) shocks front and rear. My cart has a lot of body roll and rides soft compared to what I was expecting. The only solution is to install coilover shocks on the front, which I might be doing soon. The stock shocks will not prevent body roll because they are simply dampers and provide little to no suspension performance. I might add coilover shocks with custom mounts after I complete some mods to my front suspension. I will start a thread as soon as I get the time to perform my front suspension upgrade. If you are only cruising around on smooth surfaces you might get by just fine with stock shocks. I'm curious to see how you handle your situation and how it turns out for you.
