Will. 290cc engine be strong enough
I have a few needs and need expert advice. 1. I will hunt on 400 acres in Crockett Texas. Small hills nothing major. Logging roads that are fine until it rains. Slick mud that sticks. We do have electricity at the camp. 2. I will use the cart at the beach for my two week vacation. Fish out of it cruise the beach. 3. I will drive it around the neighborhood. I will buy a lifted cart with a flip flop seat with 10 or 12 inch rims and 20-24 inch tires. Flip flop seat, light etc. $3200- 3800 budget.
Questions. Is the 290 strong enough is the main question? Is six inch lift enough? Does lifting the cart also lift the place where the belt turns? Concerned about slippage. Should I buy a CC or can two weeks at the beach ruin a Ezgo or Yamaha? Is the answer for my all around needs an electric cart? Thank you. Background. I am not mechanical. I want it to last and run. I owned a Yamaha electric plain cart and traded it for boat fiberglass work. Wife not happy thus I am not happy. Decided to kill three things with one vehicle. Sold the 4-wheeler as a piece offering. Help. |

Re: Will. 290cc engine be strong enough
I have had the same questions.....and not that much difference in the environment.
A thought or two to consider: The lift does not raise the height of the rear axle; other than to allow for taller tires which will raise the profile. The lift does not impact the relationship between the drive clutch and the driven clutch, so there is no greater issue of slippage than with a stock cart. After looking at scores of used carts, it appears that maintenance and protection of the cart from sun and rain when NOT in use is critical to cart condition and life. (my cart 31 year old cart was garage kept) I use my cart with 23 inch tires and a 4 inch lift on the ranch. Most of our ground is black gumbo; similar to yours. The lower part of the place is Brazos river sand. My 244 cc EZGO robin engine (not yet rebuilt) carries the cart and almost 500 pounds of passengers with ease. The aggressive tire pattern seems to be crucial in navigating wet, slick clay.....and the "balloon" nature of the tires seems to handle sand. It even performed well on ice this week. As for clearance; I have gone over eight inch cedar logs without a problem......and have yet to stall the cart on a climb. As to gas versus electric, I chose gasoline over electric because of the expense of batteries and the fact that when the batteries are discharged.....the day is over. With gasoline I seem to fill the tank about every month, but more importantly, I don't have to wait for batteries for a recharge. I merely refuel. (VERY sensitive to battery charge issue because I cannot walk and use a power chair...and when the chair batteries are discharged...whatever I am doing stops) Hope this is of some help! |

Thank you for the info. Any issue with slipping of the belt when going through gumbo or when going through mud/water. What is your though on the beach with Ezgo or Yamaha.

whalerman.........this parcel here is nigh-on-ta West Texas......what's mud?
seriously........I have not noticed any slippage under any conditions. Seems to me that if your clutches are functioning properly, and if your belt is in good repair that there would be little, if any, slippage, regardless of terrain. As to the beach, I just don't know, but seems like the aggressive use of garden hose after vacation would render differences nil. |

Thanks again I am a serious fisherman and wash and clean the Whaler and trailer after every trip to Sabine Pass. I have read a lot about the advantage of the Club Car having an aluminum frame.

As long as you was off the sea salt there won't be a problem with rust. As far as power, stock will get it done just without any excitement. 6" lift will do what you want no problem, go with 22" tires so you don't lose torque. Gas cart is what I recommend. Electric carts are more for "noise control" for certain neighborhoods or campgrounds and are not as maint friendly as gas. Your budget seems right on.

Re: Will. 290cc engine be strong enough
When running on the beach, steel rusts, aluminum corrodes. just wash it when you get home. As for electric carts the salt could raise hell with battery terminals and i would go with gas. I have an EZGO with a tired 290 engine on 25" tires and it goes ok. I am replacing the 290 engine with a 350 out of an 875 industrial cart.
