Default Over voltage setup

I know everyone has heard of over volting a golf cart for speed and torque. Well, I did it to mine. Me and a guy at work had some free time, so we came up with an idea. I have been wanting to over volt my 36v marathon to 48v. I was a little scared about burning up the motor or anything else. My friend is an electric guru, so with his help, we devised a plan. Here's how it goes. I added an extra battery in the cargo compartment in the back. I placed a two pole solenoid under the seat. We wired the normally closed side of the solenoid in-line with the forward side of the F-N-R switch, only running 36 volts. When you flip a switch, power goes through the normally open side. Before it goes to the battery, the power passes through another 12 volt battery, making 48 volts to the motor. This way, you can run 48v when you want and 36v the rest of the time. I can tell a definite increase in speed and torque. I haven't tried it with a full charge yet, but already saw 18.3 MPH on gravel.

Yes, it's been done over and over.

By the way, you are not going to hurt a 36v motor running 48v through it.

Thanks ScottyB. Sportcoupe, I didn't know it had been done. The idea was in our head and we made it happen.
