Motor Upgrade 95 EZGO TXT
Just joined the forum after purchasing a 1995 36v EZGO TXT series electric cart. I am in the process of turning this into a hunting buggy. I will be using this primarily in the rocky hill country of Texas west of Austin. I will be adding Jakes long travel lift kit and 23x10x12 tires. After reading several posts regarding motor upgrades, I have contacted both Plum Quick and Scotty over at Carts Unlimited. I was curious what people went with as far as the high torque motors. I am leaning towards the D&D 4:1 motor and wanted to see if anyone had experience or what they used for this type of terrain. This will primarily be an off road cart, with very little road use. The D&D site says I should expect 12mph with a 2-3 MPH increase for larger tires. And I will be upgrading the controller, solenoid, cables and F/R switch also. Thanks in advance for any advice or comments.

Re: Motor Upgrade 95EZGO TXT
Welcome to BGW!
I have a D&D 170-010-0002 with a 650 amp Alltrax and 22 inch tires on 36v. The D&D is very solid and has good torque and power and enough speed to get the job done. I use it hunting and it climbs hills without any issues carrying two people and gear. Nothing on my cart is stock and everything has been upgraded so you are thinking correctly with the upgrades you listed. If you can afford to do it I highly reccomend going to 48v. That is the next thing on my list and if I han to do it over again that would have been my first upgrade. I have no experience with Plum Quick but I hear good things about them. I did burn up two EMP motors before changing to D&D. Scotty is also very good to deal with and I am sure he will not tell you wrong. FYI my real world experience is that using off road tires offroad will not get you quite the speed that a calculator might tell you. The rolling ressistance and the squish factor of the tire and terrain net you a few mph less than a smooth onroad tire on pavement would. |

It is a lot of $$$$ when you start to upgrade these carts. I have way more money in mine than it will ever be worth but it has been fun doing it. Good luck with your project!

Re: Motor Upgrade 95 EZGO TXT
When upgrading your controller/solenoid, make sure it works at 36v and 48v. That way if you decide to raise voltage in the future, you won't have to change out everything again.
