Gear Ratio Explained ????
Can someone convert golf cart ratios to car ratios for me ? For example does the 8:1 represent say a 4:56 or more like a 3:23 .Thank you in advance.

I'm pretty sure the numbers are for reference only, not direct comparisons. It puts it in terms a car guy understands.
Or, he pulled them out of his.....lol! |

Re: Gear Ratio Explained ????
I thought they were the same...
in car talk 4.56 is 4.56 to 1 in golf cart talk 12:1 is 12 to 1 on a car...for ever 4.56 turns on the drive shaft you get one turn at the wheel on a cart...for every 12 turns at the driven clutch(or electric motor) you get 1 turn at the wheel |

I'm going with this explanation ..... the numbers are just higher than Cars. Don't forget the Ezgo workhorse at 15.1:1 and note that 12:1 is actually 12.44:1 I hope this helps? |

Re: Gear Ratio Explained ????
This brings out another often discussed and misunderstood point which is tire size and it's effect on torque loss.
Increase the tire size from 18 to 23 or 24 inches and you have changed the final drive ratio by about 33% or from 12:1 to 8:1 Now? Where did all my torque go? |
