Default Ok guys... Jake's question

As I patiently await the arrival of my Jake's LT kit, I sit here and ponder if individual parts are available? I will be putting a couple mods on this kit to make it a functioning 10" lift for my cart with 13" of functioning wheel travel. Anyway, I am curious if I accidentally bend an arm, can I buy a single arm without buying the whole kit? Or should I figure out how to "beef up" the control arms also? Thanks in advance!

What shocks will you use to get 13" of travel?

Remember, it's not how long the shock is but, where it's positioned in location to the correct geometry

Well, this is true, but the shocks typically only have 4-6" of stroke, and sometimes the springs are progressive. So the more they compress, the more force it takes to compress it. Also, "free unsprung travel" is different than "true weighted travel". Was just curious.

I love dual a arm suspensions. I think every cart should have them, they just work so well when they are dialed in properly. I get about 8" of real travel with mine, that's travel while moving. To get more, I'd need lot's of length on the a arms, probably would make my cart 6"-8" wider. No problem in the front, but in the back....? How wide will this make your front? And how will you match the rear?

A great example is the MonoShock setup on dirt bikes and sport quads. They have a shock with 4" of travel, and over double the actual travel at the wheel.

Very true Slo but, as the progressive spring compresses, it allows the lower shock to sit higher on the lower control arm, allowing for more wheel travel. Sprung wheel travel is considered in this build also. The shocks I am using will not have alot of "Droop". This is lost wheel travel at rest height. Hope this helps to clarify

There you go that's what I was looking for. That's kinda how sand rails are setup. They are built with lots of travel, but mostly for jumping, so they set up the suspension so it rides with normal loads at the top of the travel. So, in summary.....you are setting this suspension up for dune riding!

So what kind of overall width are you talking? Keep it under 50" for trail riding, any wider and you'll catch some tree's and bend a tie rod! LOL Been there done that.
