Well, I cannot help it, I am excited about this.. Anyone else do this and what has been your experience with the driven clutch being machined and the torque spring added ??
Oh yeah, BTW it is lifted and has 23" tires on her currently with stock driven clutch. Governor disabled. |

Re: Well I did it, ordered the new driven clutch with machining and spring ~~
On a yamaha the machining (cut sheave) makes the sheaves go closer together and pushes the belt out the top a little. That makes your initial (lowest) gearing lower, so you get better takeoff from a stop, rpm goes up faster, it tows better. Though I have read about them machining the inside of the sheave on CC, on a yami you don't want to do that because they eventually wear through anyway, but you could. The torque spring makes the rpm stay up higher at lower speeds so it has more snap, revs quicker, gets rid of bog, etc. Full throttle rpm should be about the same. Most CC have a spring in the primary too right, replacing that can raise engagement and help takeoff a lot though it might jerk some. All this stuff helps a lifted stock engine cart work offroad much better. It also helps my clone I now have, it will spin the tires. Though with a larger engine you don't need the torque spring as much since they have more torque, depends on how you ride it as it still works better on the trail that way.

With a stock G1 engine, 22" tires, and a performance secondary clutch kit, I could climb some pretty long steep hills in Southern Ohio near the Wayne National Forest. Pretty big hills there. The only time I ran into trouble is when I needed more wheel speed in a lower traction situation, the "low gear" of the machined clutch slowed me down and I got stuck a few times on an incline. But I can say it works wonders for pulling around trailers and climbing hills. If you use the correct spring you won't lose any top end. With that setup I still ran 30 mph.
