Yami G22 6" A-arm vs Spindle lift questions
Hello everyone, I'm a newbie to the forum.
I picked up a 2005 Yamaha G22A gas the other day and am planning on putting on a 6" lift, wheels & tires, etc. and have a few questions. I've done hours of searching here, but I am a little miffed about lifts for the G22. I see there are several different makes of spindle lifts, but have read of geometry changes can make them steer kind of squirrely, and A-arm lifts are the way to go, but are more $. Having ridden quads that the steering geometry is messed up is not a good time. My wife and boy will be driving the cart also and I want it to steer correctly and be safer. I see most brands of lifts for the Yamaha's have a lift that fits the G8-G20, G2/G9, Drive, etc, but the G22 must be a little different and requires it's own version. I was almost ready to order a Jakes 6" spindle lift, but now think I should go with an A-arm setup. It doesn't appear Jakes makes a 6" A-arm lift, but they do make the 7" Long Travel kit, although that is out of my price range. I see Rhox makes a 6" A-arm kit that is rather reasonably priced. Has anyone had any experience with the Rhox A-arm kit? I've read people suggest 22" tires on a 6" lifted G22 due to rubbing issues, but that may have been with a spindle lift. The A-arm lifts widen the stance a few inches, so would 23's fit with no issues or should I stick w/ 22's? (I'm planning on getting the white converter spring, and a CPP governor speed spring). I just got done installing new poly suspension bushings, ball joints, wheel bearings, calipers, rotors and shocks on my C4 Vette, so I think I should be able to handle the install. I would appreciate any input regarding the spindle/a-arm questions. Thanks, Carl |

Re: Yami G22 6" A-arm vs Spindle lift questions
I have 2005 G22 just put jakes 6" and 22x10.5x12 tires. Really easy to install and you dont have to remove rear body. Just go youtube for install tips. You will need to adjust toe in toe out on the front wheels/ \ to get steering just right, mine was way out after install. Again lots of tips to adjust that hear. I woudl not put 23" tires unless you install HD rear shock kit on back. I get a little rub now but I have rear seat and seems to rub inside side wall of wheel sideways on a hill. Be sure to get at least 4 ply tires and I reccomend the 12" rims but 10" rims ok if you go over alot rocks but, 12" more tire options and look is great.
As far as safe just dont over inflate tires as they go alot faster with big tires. My wife also did not like cart as much with the lift as when it was stock so prepare yourself. I would leave govenor speed the same , lower tire pressure on front to 10 pounds and rear 15 or so and that will slow it down and widen stance. Once you get steering just right the handling will be fine for a young kid but it takes multple tries as the yamaha has no camber adjust as its built in well with the tie rod adjustment. If front shocks are real bad you will need to replace as you will have hard time getting tires right. Roll back and forth 20 feet or so as when you go backwards they line up sometimes then when you go for a drive then look wonky , youll see. |

The RHOX G22 lift is also a spindle lift. Before you spend money on the "white spring", do some reading/searching about secondary clutches and torque springs and performance kits. Many have bought the white spring and been disappointed. What are the condition of the sheaves and belt? A G22 can be made to fly if $ is thrown at it in the right direction.

It looks like Rhox has a spindle and their "BMF" a-arm kits.
There's a video on an install of it on Youtube if you do a search for "LIFT-504 Yamaha G22" I also found that All Sports makes an a-arm kit, but I also can't find too much info on it. I've read some good comments about their lift kits in general here on the forum, but not regarding this particular model/kit. Quote:
Carl I apologize.....I had this reply made up with the links embedded in it, hit submit, and the forum says I'm a newbie and can't post links yet... |

Re: Yami G22 6" A-arm vs Spindle lift questions
In my experience the umax spring does work its a yamaha part for utility carts that haul coolers and equipment. Plowmans may be the best for aftermarket springs in that he can set you up with any style setup you need. CPP has good springs. You can get junk on ebay and they don't work well at all, so make sure its recommended if you go elsewhere.
If you can swing a little extra cost the double a arm lifts are better and ride better, the ones with different shocks are better yet as the stock shocks can only do so much. Jakes are great lifts maybe the best. I know a guy with a spindle jakes on a G16 says it works great, though I don't like the spindle lifts lol. But he would never jump over something and I would, I trail ride mine at times. In general the all sports were said to be good economy lifts for double arm lifts, but you still get what you pay for. If you plan to keep the cart I would say put better lift and wheels/tires it will pay you back every day for a couple/few hundred more you will spend considering what you have into the whole rig. If you campground ride the spindle lift works fine according to people I talk to though you may have to do some adjusting to get it right at first as with most higher lifts. |
