'93 ezgo ifs
Time for another build. I sold my other cart "92 Marathon All Around Build" and picked up this 93 marathon. I am going to be transplanting a Briggs 18 hp V-Twin into this cart. I also purchased a 89 Honda TRX-250 frame that i will be using the front control arms off of to do an IFS front end with. Below are the pics of how the cart started off. I will post pics as progress is made.

Re: '93 ezgo ifs
Here is the start of the fab work. On the last cart i built these drop brackets for the rear. They lower the mounts 2" and move them back 5" so that it has a little longer wheel base. It worked well on the other cart so i am doing the same to this one. Also note that i am opting for a coil over rear suspension. When i fab'd the lower mounts i made it so that i can add another coil over to carry some additional weight. I noticed on the old cart (which had stock rear suspension) that when i had gear or people in the back it would bottom out easily. I want to make sure that doesnt happen with this one.

Re: '93 ezgo ifs
So last night I began the fab work on the IFS system for the front. Here is what i have so far. It is just tacked together for now. I need to remove some brackets on the bottom side of the chassis so that this can mount cleanly, but from the pics you can get an idea of what i am trying to do. It actually has nice fluid motion thru out the entire stroke of the suspension. I think it will do the trick nicely.

Very nice! What do you intend to do for steering?

Re: '93 ezgo ifs
Im not sure what i am going to do for steering. I found some rack and pinion steering components that guys use for sandrails and go carts. I might mount that to the subframe and run my steering that way. Got any suggestions?

Re: '93 ezgo ifs
Heres you a steering idea, its meant for a 54" wide UTV, but Im sure you could modify it fairly easily by cutting and shortening the shafts:
Steering rack: http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/BH-50043150.html Tie Rod End: http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/BH-50041183.html Steering Shaft: http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/BH-50040545.html Steering Wheel: http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/BH-50038678.html Just an idea. THese are all bush hog UTV (discontinued) parts, but it may work for you for this application. Wes |

Looks great. Would you consider making another IFS for sale? I've got a '92 Marathon that is asking for a nice front suspension.

Pancakes, I would be able to make another setup, however you would have to do some fabrication on your end. I doubt that your set up and use of A-Arms would be different from mine. Not saying it cant be done. Just letting you know that there would need to be some fab work on your end. Not sure what your capabilities are. |
