Default Swing arm details??

Hello all to have done their own swing arm drop. I'm curious to see if anyone has any pics of their center hiem joint mod. I'm trying to figure out a measurement on how far to drop the swing arm and how far back to move it. Yes, I will be using a track bar in the rear to stabalize the swingarm and stop drifting...

I usually drop it half my lift height, and move it rearward until the wheel is centered with the cart sitting on the tires at ride height.

Tonka, when I did mine, I cut the swingarm loose and positioned it till it looked correct. Like Pachanga said, have it on the tires you're gonna use at ride height. Everyone is probably different. Mine ended up a 4" drop and moved rearward 5". I don't have a single heim, it's still using the stock g9 swingarm mounts.

Well, I'll be using 27" tires. I'm thinking more along the lines of 6" drop and 4" back...

I don't think 4" will be enough.

Maybe a 5" back. I'm not going from the center of the tube on the frame. I'm going from the wall

4" might as 22s fit with nothing, but yeah I'd go with the extra inch I can only get my fingers in there. Have to chop the bumper mount off too at least with a G2/9. I don't like the articulating rear, figure I'd make a 3/4 link or something that only moves limited amount that way. It leans too much in corners on the trails. Whatever the case I'd mock it up with the tires that is what I did with my lift and 22s, way back before bought lifts.

If your setup is going to be long travel, you need to account for movement of the swingarm and clearance of the engine/frame/body. Ex: if you are looking for 14" of travel, set up your suspension in the middle at rest with passenger(s), that would leave you with 7"of compression. Need to account for that 7" when locating everything. With a sand rail, you usually can build trailing arms and use cv axles so no swing arm, but the carts are different and the engine moves with the suspension. This increases the sprung weight of the suspension/swingarm. Going to be tough. I'd say the tire clearance isn't going to be your biggest issue, you can always space the tires out to clear the body/frame with spacers and/or offset wheels.

Looking forward to seeing this build!

I'm debating the articulating rear set up... Especially beings this cart with be in the dunes alot. I may just run a 4 link set up to get the wheel travel and stability I need. The front I have a Jakes LT kit that I will be modifying the control arms to accompany heavy duty coilover shocks.

Correct Slonomo. I will factor in droop with the cart loaded. The only thing is, I am using coilovers in the rear. Granted 27" tires will have some give and cushion. With a 40 horsepower engine, the sand is like concrete at higher speeds for climbing. That will make a wife and 2 kids unhappy Anyway, as for wheel spacers, I am using axles and housings from a different cart to extend the wheels out another 8". Axles and housings are 4" longer on each side with the transaxle centered on the swingarm. So, I will not need spacers. Just figuring out wheel offset will be a chore in itself Looks like I need to get on the ball and order some more pipe and heim jointsWhere is Smallblock at? I need to pick his brain on a few things
