Re: 90 Marathon 6" lift
On a Marathon You're going to be able to go 5" tops without some restructuring of the steering, etc - There isn't a need to go any higher than 5" though as long as You're willing to run 22's for tires (23's may or may not rub, depending on brand - all tires are a little bit different once inflated and mounted - I've had most fit but some don't)... I've used these lift kits on Marathons with much success:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EZ-GO-Gas-Go...-/180460342331 You'll also need either offset rims or wheel spacers for the rear - stock rims won't work with the lifts. Also, depending on your tastes and driving styles, You can replace the stock shocks with Monroe 31125's and 31000's (about $60 total) and eliminate the shock spacers from the kits - helps the ride a bit and also holds up better to serious offroading |

Re: 90 Marathon 6" lift
Yeah have plans to change the shocks out for the monroes....really like the drop axle lift vs the block lift, but may have to go with blocks.....plan to run 22x10x12 wheels and tires when I get to that point. Thanks for the help

Re: 90 Marathon 6" lift
I haven't seen a larger than 5" drop axle for Marathon, but again I haven't worked on one for almost 2 years now ... FWIW, my first carts (Marathons) saw as much abuse and hard riding as any cart I've owned since (maybe in some ways more, LOL) and I never had an issue with the block lifts, only the shock extenders (which new Monroe's will fix)

Re: 90 Marathon 6" lift
thats the 4 inch lift from ebay, overall im happy with the lift esp for the price and it was rather simple as well. took maybe an hour or so to install. the tires are 22-11-10's and have plenty of room for taller tires if you wanted, i dont honestly see the reason to have much larger then this on my cart anyway. i do offroad it and on road both, the front is rather limited with travel and its the weakest part of the whole setup, but you learn your limits rather fast what you can and cant do. if you have any questions you can hit me up and ill help you anyway i can share, thats on a 94 gasser. 4 cycle . |

Re: 90 Marathon 6" lift
Oops, My bad - I was thinking Medalist (the early TXT's) - You're likely going to be stuck with a block-style, but as I mentioned the block lifts will take a LOT of abuse so I wouldn't worry about using one, again, provided You go with full length shocks and toss the extenders in the trash (those I *have* bent with hard use) ... If You go Block lift (the 5") then Monroe 31000 and 31125's are the direct bolt-in replacement shocks (available through RockAuto.com for around $60-ish total for a pair of each).
One other point to consider when getting your parts list together, stock rims won't work on the back with the lift, so You'll have to pop for either 1-2" axle spacers (around $30 from ATV Engineering) or a pair of offset steel rims (around $20 each, available through most of the site sponsors) - if you decide to go with a fancier rim and wheel assembly, then most will be offset (check to be sure when ordering, You want at lest a 3:4 or better yet a 2:5 with either 10" or 12" rims) - also of note, a 2-ply tire will be cheap, but the sidewall flex will make your cart handle like a "Bobblehead" LOL - stick with a minimum 4-ply, the ride stiffness is negligible but the difference in stability and handling are night and day. |

Re: 90 Marathon 6" lift
Ok thanks for the heads up....going to run offset rims with 22x11x12 tires in 4 ply for sure. Think I will start with the 4" drop axle and maybe build a set of 2" spacers and change the rear springs out for longer ones, as I want to put a rear seat on the cart too.

Re: 90 Marathon 6" lift
Again, though - remember that the stock steering components will only extend for a 5" lift - You're looking at some fab work, etc to be able to go to 6" (in fact even the 5" lift takes a few degrees of steering away in one of the two directions, can't recall which) ... Also, the Marathon drop-axles leave the long tie-rod hanging down at stock height just BEGGING to be bent on the first root, rock, etc you hit (with the block lift it's at least behind the axle, which can take 10X the abuse) - it sounds like You're sold on a drop-axle but believe me, don't be - they're no stronger, tougher, etc and they actually (as I mentioned w the Tie Rod thing) can open You up for more issues. Oh - and if You go drop-axle, you're stuck with the stock shocks.
