Yeah, the only way to kill power to the BMS without the monitor is unplugging the tap harness plug from the cells.

When my first ZEVA monitor went blank on me I tried every way possible to turn the BMS off without pulling the tap harness plug.

You would not need to remove the entire tap, just the wire from tap #16 since that is where the Zeva gets its power.

It is a lot simpler to just use the sleep pin.

In sleep mode the system will draw about 1.5Ah/week.

Those ZEVA guys\gals need to design one that will work from a separate 12V battery. That way there would be no drain on the pack. Drain on a separate 12V would be NBD as a battery tender could be used on the 12V.

Just speaking from the vast depths of my non-engineering mind!!!

Dave, I believe the older version of the BMS did run off of 12V IIRC.

Sergio, it was so much easier for me to unplug the whole tap instead of just the jumper's small screw in the molex connector due to the positioning of my BMS.

Balancing question... Yesterday my pack was all green and balanced around 4.175 - 4.181. I got up this morning and the pack was farther out than when last night and has been balancing all day.

Balance voltage is set at 4.17. The pack has been plugged in for the past 48 hours.

Is this normal and I'm overreacting?

I just kinda assumed that once the pack was balanced out it would just sit there all happy waiting to be be used and start the cycle over.

Did it bleed off enough voltage balancing to charge again and its just settling out after that... Hmmm....

Your High to low is 13mV which isn't too bad - and balancing takes a while with most BMS because they only drain a couple hundred mA from the high cells.
I only balance my pack about once every 5 or 6 charges - and I balance to about 10mV. My own design BMS allows me to manually turn on balancing which I do after a charge cycle if I think it needs it.

The Vmax and Vbalance dotted lines appear to be almost on top of each other on the screen, what are the current settings?

As mentioned the balancing process is slow but it will keep getting closer at the end of each charging cycle.

I am not sure why You want to charge again if all cells are already above the Vbalance setting, what is your target for full pack voltage?

Having the power supply internal to the BMS is much better than using an external power source, it is a true BMS (emphasis on Management and not just Monitor), You cannot keep track of the SOC unless it is always being monitor.

Vmax is 4.19 and Vbal is 4.17.

I actually wasn't trying to keep charging it i just left it plugged in while it was on the bench.

I probably just need unplug the charger, stop fixating on the Monitor for a bit and get it installed and get a few real charge cycles...

Break is over back to work!

Looking good, just be mindful where you land that charger positive wire since it was looped through the current sensor and if the current comes back through the big cable it will affect the current reading.
