Default JLD404 reading off inconsistantly

I put a JLD404 on a friends cart I converted to lithium a couple years ago. He recently had it die on him and the voltage reading was down below 49 (which is where I have it set to cut off). He put it on charger and it jumped up to full voltage in a matter of a few minutes (it obviously didn't charge that fast). He had the problem again and I had him check pack voltage with meter and it read charged, but jld was reading very low.

It seems to be worse in the mornings he said, but it also done it after he made a trip to the woods from camp and he went to leave and it wouldn't.

I had him bring it to me to check it out. I havn't seen it go that low, but ea time I have turned it on it was a few volts lower than what the meter reads on the pack. As you watch it, it will slowly rise up to the proper reading.

Anyone had this issue before?
Thanks,
Jim
