Default Average mileage from 60ah (36v - 5module) leaf batteries? Any input appreciated

Can anyone who has converted to 5 or 10 leaf modules provide a run time estimate? Miles, days, holes, hours - any measure is appreciated. Thinking about tackling a leaf conversion and trying to decide between 5 and 10 leaf modules.

Thanks in advance.

I would do 10 modules for sure! 60AH won't cut it and it's a very bad thing to ever run it down too low. Better to have extra AH and keep the battery between 90% and 20%.

Unfortunately, that is almost impossible to answer. Number one is the condition of said leaf pack, how many ah are truly left in there, and how far you are going to charge and discharge. The weight, rolling resistance of your setup, and terrain will have a huge impact on distance traveled as well. I have 15 modules in a 1000 lb cart, 20” turf tires aired down a bit for rough terrain, and it’s generally loaded or pulling a trailer. It eats the snot out of my pack. But my modules only have about 40 ah left in them, I only charge to 4.1v and discharge to about 3.8v, and I’m still a crappy resistor cart. I pretty much have to floor it everywhere because the next notch down barely gets me rolling. My opinion is to go ahead and get 10 because you may well end up wanting more than 5. Or get 14 and go 48v.

I run 14 in my cart which is 52V nominal which is too much for many controllers. I get great performance and the pack only weighs 110 pounds. I have three years of use on it so far.

When I was running a completely stock 2003 PDS with 5 modules, I was getting around 13 miles. That was with the stock tires running on sidewalks and street on completely flat ground here in Florida. I did push it to 15 miles, but I was almost home and barely moving.

And you do NOT want to push a Lithium pack to the point where you notice a fall off in performance!

Thanks everyone for the input! I think based on agpfl's comment 5 would likely be enough, but to izzybirds point I can probably get better life out of them by narrowing the charge window with 10, especially since it is hard to know the background on ebay modules.

IMHO.....go with 10. You won't regret that decision. However.....get a quality BMS that will provide you with HV and LV terminations.

As V_A stated.....you do not want to push the LV issue!! Here's why: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/lithi...-exploded.html

Why are you asking 5 and 10, not 6 and 12 or 7 and 14? Six 60ah cells will give you more range than five 60ah cells.

Most people converting like going with the 7 or 14 option as increases in V give you increases in speed/performance.

He is running 36v. 5 modules brings you in at a max or 42v so its something the controller can handle. 6 modules is 50.4v and would kill the stock controller in short order.
