Melex 412 strange problem with speed controller
This is an electric 36 volt cart.
This cart has an electronic speed controller. Its doing a couple different things. I'm not sure if they're related or not. 1st and strangest. when I got the cart you always had to press the pedal twice before it would move. And then the pedal started sticking a little so it would try to crawl ahead when stopped. So I put a spring on the accelerator switch to pull it to the stop position. After that the pedal did not need pressed twice anymore. But now it has a new problem. every other time you press the pedal the cart runs slow. This problem is not random at all. It happens every other time the pedal is pressed. The other times it runs pretty good. 2nd when running sometimes the speed fluctuates a lot. And 3rd sometimes the motor gets extremely hot, till it smells like wires burning. Usually when we've ran it a lot (normal?) I think its probably the speed controller causing these problems because of the 1st problem, but I'm not sure what part of the speed controller could be the culprit. and I could be completely off course. If anyone has an idea what can be causing these problems I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks :) John |

Do you know or can you find out what yr the cart is?
And can you post pics of all of the various components under the seat.... Let us have a look at what you've got there. |

As I recall the Melex cars used Curtis controllers and Curtis PB-6 pot box assy's. Scottyb, sound like the pot box to you?

The pic's show you are using 2 12 volt battery's, running any golf cart with low voltage or low amperage will burn up the motor and maybe the controller.

It has 3 12s in it. All 3 hold a good charge.
