melex electrical problem
HI.
I have a melex with the curtis 500 speed controller. My son put the batteries in backwards and then hit the pedal. Smoke came from somewhere, not sure where but anyway the little resister, diode or whatever that is between the small posts on the solonoid burnt in half. There is nothing left of it for comparison. Now it doesn't do anything. Can someone tell me what that little part is so I can get one for it. Also, what other damage is likely? Thanks :) John |

Re: melex electrical problem
I wish I could help. I broke the wire on my resistor. I looked at Radio Shack to try to compare but was unsuccessful. I was able to crimp on a new connector and use it. They do sell diodes but I did not try to compare them. Good luck
If it will help I will take a picture of mine. Last edited by mike733; 12-13-2012 at 06:20 PM.. Reason: forgot something |

Re: melex electrical problem
The resistor is 470 ohm 10w. The diode is 3 amps. You should check all of the Micro switches at the F&R and the gas peddle (one at the potentiometer if you have that type of throttle signal device)... sorry to hear about this,
If you got lucky, the controller survived. |

Re: melex electrical problem
Hi Scottyb
Thanks for the info. I got a diode and resistor and put in it. Still nothing works. I'm pretty sure the controller is bad. I've gone to trying to get the club car running for now. Again, thanks for the help! John |

Re: melex electrical problem
My guess is the solenoid is not activating and it is not a controller problem but a micro switch problem and/or a reed switch problem.
