Default The "Budge"

This isn't a new cart build really, as it's been thru a couple different setups so far and never had a name. I couldn't think of a name for it so didn't want to start the build thread until I did.

Well, I was out messing with it today doing some measuring and taking a few pictures and a video of the donor engine running.

I started out with a G1 and got the original 2 sroke running, after a bit though it gave up the ghost. So I installed an 8hp Briggs I had sitting around here. It runs ok and pulls good but it's hard on it and hills..... just let me say, Slow!

The plan as I have it now (And we all know how plans go with these carts) I'm going too install this 25hp Kawasaki engine in the cart. I've already dropped and pulled back the swing arm and installed the G2 rear in it. The rear is all working good.

So far, it looks like it's going to be a tight fit, but it will fit.

The engine is cleaned up and after cleaning all the grass off and out of it (It was a mower engine) I installed it on the test stand. It hadn't been run in at least a year but started right up and the charging system is working as well. So now the install will start.

I'll be removing all the G1 stuff including the wiring, solenoids and starter/generator to get ready for the install. I won't need any of the items I'm removing. I also removed the huge air cleaner system that sat on top and will remove the exhaust and then I have too build a new one. The original sure is quiet, so I may work on trying to reuse the muffler that's on it

The name? Well, it's a budget build, always has been. So I came up with the name: "The Budge"

Actual cash money, I have about $750 in the cart as it sits right now. Over half that being the tires and wheels. Since I did a lot of trading for to get this engine and had no money in the swaps I made, I don't have anything $$ wise in the new engine, other than the fuel to go get it. So it's still a budget build and hopefully I can keep it that way.

Here are a few pictures, followed by a video of the engine running.

Here is the video, I hope! There is a knocking noise when it is idling, but that's the stand vibrating on the floor.

I got the engine out as well as all the wiring harness from the original G1. I did find that I'll have too cut my engine cradle out and move it forward a bit. And will probably end up having too lengthen it a little bit as well. Not sure how tight width wise it's going to be yet, but I'll figure it out as I go. Same as everyone does with these things.

I will take pictures and post tomorrow of the empty engine bay.

Glad to see that little snowblower engine is getting replaced with some real power! I'll be keeping an eye on this build.

Just curious.. Is there any aftermarket parts available for that engine? I've never seen one of those in a horizontal shaft. Sounds like it runs pretty good. Are you going to use the stock G1 clutch?

There are people using horizontal shaft Kawasaki engines in Lawn Mower Racing, but don't know if they are using this one. I haven't found anything aftermarket for it.

I'm going to use a Team clutch. The shaft is 1 1/8th inch and I already had the clutch. So it was a no brainer to get this engine seeing as in my trading I don't have any $$$ in it.

It does sound and run very well and seems like it will have good torque. I will probably leave the governor intact for right now and see how it does. It seems to rev pretty well even with it.
