Default 2003 ezgo txt pds build

Hi all, I am a new owner of a 2003 ezgo txt pds 36 volt cart that I picked up for $600. As it sits the cart does not work. The previous owner assured me the only thing it needs to run is new batteries. I wanted to start a build thread here and document all my findings, changes, experiences, etc with building this cart. I look forward to input from you guys because I am new to carts (this is my first cart), so I am not sure what direction to go in. I plan to remove body and do a frame up restoration of the cart. I'm not sure what will need replacing yet, but hope to find out once I get it stripped down. I'm not too concerned that it doesn't run, as I plan to replace batteries, controller, wiring, etc. I also want to do a 6" lift, 14" black wheels, and 23" tires. I want to go with an all black theme here, and no chrome. I'm thinking my budget is going to be around $3,500 for the build so I hope that will get me to where I want to be.

I am having trouble posting pics from phone so will add some pics later .

Here is what you do first : up grade to 48 volt ... Scotty's 808pkg. Carts unlimited : second put in 8- 6 volt batteries ... Not 6-8 volt . the reason is for
Life span of batts and range .. Go with the highest amp hour battery 260 amp/hr
Then put In a jakes Long travel front end ... Smooth ride and excellent for off road .. You will need to putt in HD springs on back if you are going with rear seat flip option .. Then put in 12 volt accessories battery in bag well to run winch , radio etc. ( you can shoe horn all the 8-6 volt batts under the seat ), then
You work overtime for a year to pay for all the stuff

ok here are some pics as it sits now. I removed the bed today but not sure about the brackets extending towards rear of cart. It looks like the seat is attached to them so I am confused as to how to remove? Will these be utilized to add a rear facing seat? Also, I plan to convert to 48 volt so I am guessing the charger below is useless? Is it worth anything?

Question...I have been thinking about the whole 6 8 volt, 8 6 volt situation and was curious which was better. Is there a lot of additional weight due to the 2 extra batteries? Also, I'm guess this option is more costly due to the fact of needed to buy 2 more batteries. Great ideas there, but don't think I need a long travel suspension system and winch to navigate the paved roads in my neighborhood back and forth to the pool.

There are more amp/ hr capacity in six volt batts then 8 volt . The added weight ( approx. 140lbs ) is worth it due to the additional life span of six volt as opposed to eight volt .. I would do it on life span alone .. But hey it's your choice if you are just going on pavement do a 6 inch spindle lift

wise man (scottyb) once told me...

"view your pictures in your viewer....rotate them so they are right side up, close pic and the next time you view it or send it it will be in the same corrected right side up position." quote from thread below:

Ok 8 6 volt will be on the list of mods to do. When you say additional life span you mean life of battery overall right? Not between charges? What type of life would one expect to get out of a qaulity set of batteries if well taken care of?

I too just bought an 05 Ezgo TXT PDS like yours and it too needs batteries. Everybody has their own reasons for wanting a specific battery configuration. I'm not gonna say this is right or that is wrong because there are as many good answers as there are uses for these carts sometimes
I like 6/8v Trojan T890. They weigh on 42 pounds more than the original 6/6v and they fit under the seat in the original rack. My cart will be a speed demon around the neighborhood with little more than a controller pkg, cable set, & battery charger. Run time should be 20% greater than 6/6v or about 130 minutes (2 hours) of actual pedal time or 40 miles which ever comes first.

Another nice option for these carts is 42v. Made from 7/6v all under the seat as well. The stock PDS motor does very well on 42v.Producing about 28mph with the right controller combination.

A quality battery like a Crown battery - 6 volt ... Because of there thick lead plate design .. Taken care of correctly ,discharged on average to 70% --should last 7-8 years ... 8 volt ... Maybe 4-5 years .. Approx.
Again battery configuration .. Is a personal choice .. My point is why not use the highest amp/ hr battery with the longest life span ... Which will get you great range .. Yes there is added weight .. But it is worth it .. Also let's say you let your pack draw down too far by accident .... And your charger will not kick on due to battery pack being too low .. With a six volt configuration all you need is a six volt charger or a 12 volt charger to pull up a week couple of batts . Have yet to see a 8 volt charger or 16 volt?
