EZGO retirement from life on the golf course.
I picked up a 2011 EZGO 48V TXT. It was a golf course cart, but it's in pretty decent shape and has 2015 US Batteries.
I have no experience with golf carts, and generally no idea what I'm doing. I wanted this to be a fun weekend hobby where I could learn a thing or two, and hopefully end up with a cool cart for beefing around the neighborhood. First things first: -Removed the golf stuff (ball cleaner, bag cover, etc). -Centered the steering wheel by unhooking the steering linkage at the front end to center things up. -Gave the cart about 1/8" toe-in so it wasn't so squirrely in a straight line. It came to me with a little bit of toe-out. -At this point it will top out around 17mph according to a phone GPS app. |

Re: EZGO retirement from life on the golf course.
The most obvious next step is wheels. I want to go the on-road route, and those stock tires just aren't cutting it.
I found a good deal on a set of 14" rims and tires with an offset to fit an standard height (or lowered) EZGO TXT without rubbing. I'm happy with them for sure. Good news: It will cruise at about 21mph with the taller tires. Bad news: The new wheels really highlight how bad the stock brakes are. |

Re: EZGO retirement from life on the golf course.
Up next was my first "difficult" task. My goal was to take the body off, paint it, cut out headlight slots, wire up a voltage reducer, and wire up the headlights.
It took me a while, but I'm pretty darn happy with how it came out. While digging into the cart and taking the body off I scraped away probably 2 pounds of clay, found 2 golf course pencils, and a sharpie marker. -I wanted flat black, so I decided to use PlastiDip for the paint after hearing good things on this forum. I used the rattle cans because I don't have a spray gun. It has a few spots that look a little streaky because of the rattle can's uneven spray, but I really can't complain. I prepped by cleaning it with dish soap, then rubbing alcohol, then making sure it was completely dry. Six cans and 4 or 5 coats later, it's flat black! -The voltage reducer and light installation went pretty smoothly. I took my time to make sure I didn't do anything dumb, and everything seems to be working as expected. Thanks to ScottyB for the nice voltage reducer at a really fair price! Here's the progress so far. I picked up a flip rear seat kit but haven't installed it yet, so I've been riding around like this. I think it looks kinda cool this way! |

Thanks Jake!
Put the rear flip seat on. It's nice, but it doesn't look as cool anymore IMO. Ah well, the utility is worth it. Thought about going without the roof and windshield, but eh it's starting to cool off. Next up, need to paint that roof! |

Very cool looking cart. I build cars, and was looking at your cart before the rear seat, and was thinking a short "roadster/speedster" type windshield would look pretty cool. Actually pretty useless on a cart but would look cool! Anyway, you did a great job on the cart! The flat black looks really nice and is very popular now. I have seen cars flat black with shiny black stripes, very cool also.

You might like the full width rear bumper. I think it finishes off the rear of the cart and offers a little protection for rear pax legs.

Thanks guys! I'll have to look into that full width rear bumper, kernal - that does look better.
Not a ton of progress, but I did manage to paint the roof and install a digital voltage meter. I just used regular flat black spray cans for the roof, it came out just fine. |
