Default Help removing brake pedal spring and steering assembly

I've decided that I need to complete the teardown of my 99 txt so I can properly rehab the frame. Right now I am stuck on 2 things.

1. How do I remove the brake pedal spring? I have the nut off the pivot busing, but the bolt is binding and I can't pull it out. Is there a way to remove the spring without removing the bolt to remove tension?

2. Only other thing is the steering. I have the service manual, and think I can get it apart, but how complex is it to reassemble it properly and safely? Any shortcuts or tricks to help with that?

Default Re: Help removing brake pedal spring and steering assembly

For your brake pedal spring. Observe closely before removal on how it is oriented. Remove the nut and then you will have to hold the pedal and apply pressure upward against the spring while you remove the bolt. When you go to put the assembly back in the cart you will have the spring already hooked in the proper spot on the pedal. Then you will hook the other end of the spring on the frame and then pull/push and bleed to get the pedal to align with the mounting holes. Be patient after you get it the first time it will go smoother after you get the technique down.

For your rack are you rebuilding or replacing? For either remove the column first. Then it is just 3 bolt holding the rack to the frame. There will likely be locktite on the bolts that thread into the rack body. There are really no shortcuts and if you have the manual it explains the process and there are no surprises in there.
