My First Golf Cart - 2004 EZ-Go TXT

My parents decided to move and gave me their 2004 TXT. My Dad is very particular about his vehicles so this thing has been babied since the day he bought it 13 years ago. It sat at their winter home in Arizona and was used to golf twice a week and little else. He even replaced the batteries befor sending it to me. I have some plans that will undoubtedly cost me more than the cart is probably worth, but based on the appearance I will get many years out of this cart and hope I can get it looking cool for use in my neighborhood and on the golf course.

Redo lights, switch to LEDs
Install Deep Cycle Marine battery to run everything

I started by stripping the cart down to the chassis. I figured it would be easier to run wires and do the work I want to do.

First thing was to install heavy duty springs, change all the shock bushings and install shock boots.



The cart came with basic lights, but the previous installer had them wired to two batteries. At first I decided to install a voltage reducer but half way through the installation of the lights and stereo I thought I may draw too many amps for the reducer so that never quite made it into production. It worked fine, but I didn't want to max it out.

Unfortunately my wife threw the box away so I will have the sell the reducer for a fraction of what I bought it for.


Instead, I went with a dedicated deep cycle marine battery that will be installed in the bag well under the back seat.


Installed a marine grade fuse block on the passenger side:

Started tackling the stereo. Plans is for no head unit, I will run everything from Bluetooth. I don't want to break the bank but I want it to sound good.

Bluetooth Controller - Cadence BTM1
Amplifier - Soundstream ST4.1000D - 90w x 2, 250w x 1
Front Speakers - Polk Audio DB5251 components
Subwoofer - Polk DB840

Decided the front cowl was th best place for the amplifier and speaker crossovers. Not perfect because I have to pop rivets if any adjustments need to be made so I need to get things set up well to begin with. Made a mounting plate from aluminum diamond plate for the components:


Mounted it in the front cowl:


Built an enclosure for the subwoofer to fit in the open space under the drivers seat. Coated in in Line-X to make it waterproof. Here is is mounted under the seat:


Then i had to make front pods for the speakers. I looked at the EZ-go plastic ones, but they were flimsy and I would still have to customize them for the component speakers to fit. Decided to glass up a pair of pods specific for these speakers:


Coated the pods with Line-X to make them waterproof and they look better:


I view from behind with the subwoofer in place just to the left of the batteries and the speaker pods in the dash:


Still need to do some tuning and final install in the dash....more coming....

I just did something similar but I used a small Odyssey PC680 battery since I'm using a bluetooth soundbar and not a full fledged amp-based custom system.

Should work fine for day usage.

I probably didn't need as big of battery as I bought. My local Menards had it on sale for $70 plus they had an 11% rebate going on so I got a pretty great deal. I've left it running while I was working on other things. At pretty good volume, it has lasted 3 full days without a charge. Voltage is still reading 12.3v

Nice! I take it it is not going to be used golfing again? ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL rims too!!!!!

It will be used for golf and buzzing around the neighborhood. Back seats are being added with a bag carrier on that.

If you decide you need to shed some weight and/or need to save space, this is the battery I used.

Only $30 and lots of people use them for 'cooler music systems' or 'ammo can speakers'
