Default Our first "ALPHA" Build ... Yeesh

Well, we finally finished the first of several "Frame-Off" builds using the MadJax "Alpha" bodies we have planned, and all I can say is thank GOD it's finally done, sold, and down the road. We've done crappy aftermarket fiberglass bodies (57 T-bird, etc) that weren't HALF the hassles to install these "DIY" kits are supposed to be - everything from having to re-fab new bumper mounts and mod the bumper itself to completely redesigning the rear body/taillight mounts and actually shaving the new underbody plastics to actually get the Alpha kit to fit correctly ...

On the upside, having this one in the shop for almost 2 weeks *did* get us deposits on the next 2 we build, they *ARE* pretty "Bad-A$$* looking, just a nightmare to come together and get straight and correct with no misalignment, rattles, etc. The NEXT ones aren't going to be $5200 though, THAT I can say without question, yeesh ...

Specs are: 2006 Precedent Frame, all new body plastics except inner cowl and battery box, ALPHA Body Kit, MJFX Cargo Box, MJFX Double A-Arm Kit, 12X7 Rims with 22's, Alltrax XCT400 with 3-way switching and USB Extension, 2G wiring throughout, 180-series Contactor, Plum Quick Motor, new floor mat, CF dash with Kenwood Media System, Fosgate 6.5's, Kenwood Amp, Blue LED interior lighting, 30A Reducer, HD rear springs, new brakes and cables and Crown Batteries. She runs out at just over 27mph in "Speed Setting 3" and runs at 18mph in "Torque" mode with a pretty **** nice amount of pulling power - the new owner is going to drive it for awhile and likely bring it back for some programming tweaks once he gets a feel for the cart (and that's also when he's going to decide on what color seats and top he wants to go with, we all decided white just wasn't *quite* the look but his budget was at the end for the time being).

If anyone is doing one of these bodies and gets stuck, feel free to PM - there are a LOT of little tips and tricks that they don't show You online as well as a bunch of stuff to just throw away and build over if You want the project to turn out RIGHT, I'd be glad to help out however I can

MAP is around $850 for the complete kit (Front and Rear Body, Premium LED package, Wiring Harness, Mounting Kit, etc) - the Bodies themselves are quite nice and built well, it's just a bit of a trick to install them "perfectly" without some creative fab work. The Cowl Support Bracket actually interferes with the reinstallation of the stock bumper, so there's a little rethinking to do there (slotting and drilling the rear of the bumper is one way, fabbing up a new upright for the support is another), also the taillight brackets in the rear double as body mounts, to get them to actually SECURE the body like they should involves some drilling, longer bolts, etc but once You've figured it all out it's a PITA but do-able (I don't think I'd trust the system as designed for more than 1/2hr off-road though). For the average guy, spending an extra day working out all the kinks might not be the end of the world, but for a shop where the hour-clock is ticking and it *has* to be perfect it's frustrating, at least the first time You install one.

All in all I'm glad we invested in several of the kits, I'm just glad we decided to not put them up for sale AS kits, only shop-installed - they ARE really well-built (just maybe not-so-well with the engineering of the mounting system) but I don't think I'd be comfortable selling one to a customer and hoping it didn't come back because they couldn't get it to fit correctly or as solid as it should.

Cart looks great! I will be picking up a full Havok kit for my Yamaha as soon as they release it. Hopefully it doesn’t have the issues you ran into.

I know the pain. The Bentley body I got was supposed to be "so easy just bolts right on" two days of fabrication, trimming, etc. still wasn't 100% happy when it was done! Rattled too. I am glad it is gone and on to the next project.

Nice job on the cart though beautiful blue color!

I am working on installing the Aplha kit currently and the rear body does not fit in to the channel all the way around. It seems the body is just a bit too big because as soon as one side is in the other pops out (specifically the fit by the taillight area is where I am having issues). What modifications did you make to get the rear section to fit?

I had the same problem. you will have to trim the bottom to fit. it took me a couple of hours to get everything right. make small cuts and keep trying until it fits. I tried to call the MFG to get help but they did nothing. be careful not to bend or crease the body. Good luck.
