98 workhorse 1200 build
So i picked up a 98 ezgo workhorse 1200 after looking for a gas golf cart for awhile. It actually was almost exactly what i wanted and picked it up for 1k. It runs great so I’m leaving the motor alone for now other than just a tuneup, doing a jakes LA kit and 22” tires, plus a new seat and some other small things.
Already got schooled on buggies unlimited having nothing to do with site, which sadly is how I found this site. So most of the ezgo parts were ordered from ecartparts, and the lift and tires are coming from Jason’s golf carts. So i figured I’ll post a build thread while I’m waiting on parts. The first couple pics are the day I brought it home as you can the engine compartment was all brown and covered with dirt. The next one was after 2 cans of gunk and a good spray down, and then the last 2 from today pulling off the plastics getting ready for when the lift comes. While waiting for the tuneup parts to come |

Re: 98 workhorse 1200 build
Parts are starting to show up, that was some fast shipping turnaround and I would have more if ups didn't have a delay for nothing.
Also had to improvise a steering wheel puller with some parts I had laying around, worked like charm. Really need the wind to slow up some so I can get to painting some parts |

I can see who's golf cart that really is. Hardly a pic without the pup on the seat.
I picked up a 2000 workhorse many years ago. Loved it right away but one thing led to another thing and before I knew it I created a monster Enjoy the cart |

Re: 98 workhorse 1200 build
Well he was raised on my dads golf cart as you can see below, and it's his favorite thing to do. So he gets a say on what gets done.
More parts came in today and took the floor panels off to grind away some rust and get the front frame ready for some rust reformer and undercoat. Hopefully the wind dies down and I can paint tomorrow, also going to work on a battery tray and running new wire to the front of the cart |

Re: 98 workhorse 1200 build
Well the wind still came but I was able to get the front frame sprayed with undercoating. Also pulled the muffler off and sprayed it with high temp paint. Removed all the plastics off the rear so I could pressure wash the back of the frame. Cut out the old battery tray, going to grab some aluminum to fab up a new open bottom tray. Also more parts showed up these from amazon.
It's also nice that the PO left me some extra wire but I can't get over the fact he used heat shrink butt connectors yet he never put a heat gun to them. Not a single connector was done. |

Re: 98 workhorse 1200 build
Well got the new battery tray done, had some aluminum leftovers I used. Will either buy a strap or make one to keep it tied down. Also painted the muffler with some high temp to get rid of the rust bucket eyesore. After thinking I wasn't gonna pull of the back quarter panels I decided to take them off to paint.
Also lift and tires showed up, however have to work this weekend so not sure how much work I'll get done. I now have stuff spread all over the garage and into the dining room. Parts need to start going on the cart or I'm gonna run out of space |

Out with the old in with the new. Got front suspension disassembled and front lift installed minus the tie rods, old ends are stuck in not gonna waste time to remove them just gonna order new ones.
Intstructions were a little lacking but everything went together pretty well, lift kit will definitely last. Started on the rear and one brake hub does not want to come off so that's gonna be tomorrow's struggle |

Looks like you have a full head of steam going.
Keep up the good work! Your garage looks like mine, just enough room to walk around the cart! LOL Are you going to keep the dump bed or do something else? |
