New to this - just got a 2002 TXT EZGO
Just purchased my first cart- an EZGO TXT electric 36 volt.
Its a 2002 but has almost no frame rust and a new motor. It checked off most of my want list... Lifted, turn signals, break lights, bigger tires, blue tooth radio, extended top, and Brand New Batteries. I still want to redo a few things. For some reason the radio and volt meter are on switches. I cant imagine the volt meter draws that much current. It’s really annoying on the radio- i have to set it up every time i turn it on. Any reason to leave them that way? The blinkers do not make any noise and I’ve left them on a few times. Has to be a simple fix for that. Also want to add a USB charger, iPhone holder and a light bar. Looking to upgrade the bulbs to LED. Guessing I can just get new LED bulbs on Amazon to replace the incandescent? Suggestions are welcome on any of the above. |

Re: New to this - just got a 2002 TXT EZGO
I have one of these for the phone:https://us.macally.com/products/mcup
Works pretty good. You can find them cheaper if you shop around IE. big box stores. I used LED light bulbs in the tail lights. 1157 dual element (LED equivalent) at wally world. I used red bulbs behind the red lenses as suggested by Cree. You should do your own research on that. I have factory lights so cyclops headlight unlike yours but there should be replacement LED bulbs available. Look to see where your 12v source is. Commonly on 36v carts two of the batteries are used. This is not good practice long term. You need a reducer/converter with a constant on low current wire connection to keep radio memory when off. Could be wired to the key switch. By that I mean the converter is wired to key switch for off/on but the low current connection is always on. |

Congrats on the new cart. That is a clean looking SERIES drive cart. We have a DC reducer which has a separate low amp 12v radio memory lead designed to keep the radio from loosing it's preset channels when the cart is off.

Thank you for the replies!
It has a DC reducer... ill have to look and see what the model is. Maybe it does have the low amp option. Any reason the voltage meter should be switched? Can’t imagine it pulls anything significant. |

LED volt meters draw next to nothing. They can be left on for years

Having the radio on a switch is a good idea. A radio left on can drain batteries quicker than you would think. But if your losing all memory then It is wired incorrectly. You will have a yellow and a red, one goes to your switch the other stays always on 12v to keep your settings and such. Google a diagram and you will see how to fix the wiring.
If your going to be running a lot of electronics Make sure you run a decent gauge to the dash and you can just jump everything off of that. Might be a good idea to figure out how many switches your going to have and buy a rocker panel with that number of switches. Me personally I’m in the separate 12v club but a reducer works. But I wouldn’t keep running from the 2 batteries in the pack. Espessially if you put a light bar on. I have personal experience in killing batteries. |

For the blinker I would imagine it uses a relay to make the flashing, you should be able to replace that with one of the ones that makes the clicking noise. You can get them at any auto parts store. All of the Vehicles prior to the computerized vehicles used them I believe.
Or you could get one with a chime that’s downstream of the light so when the 12v goes to turn the light on whatever “noise maker” you would like. It would be on as long as the bulb flashed. Heck, you could hook a horn up to it, that would help you remember to turn it off. |

A quick update on where I’m at on the new card
Figured out the wiring on the battery meter. It’s on 24-7 now. Also removed a small 4 led light he had installed to light the cabin. Replaced it with a string of twinkle lights that are AA battery operated for now. Made the wife happy. Trying to figure out the radio wiring- can’t find a manual for it on line. I think it’s wired correctly because the face dims when I turn it off. Next step is a light bar- nothing huge- maybe a 12inch two row. Just want more light around the neighborhood Then a usb charger. I’m a realtor and can’t live without my phone Chasing wires so I hope to find the blinker wires soon and get a clicker wired in. Last edited by BWBevis; 03-31-2018 at 03:52 PM..
