Yamaha G3E Sun Classic rebuild
So I’ve been looking for a Sun Classic for a while, but I never could seem to find one. Finally found one buried in a golf cart junkyard of a neighbor’s. It has no motor (I have one for it), no controller, no batteries, no POT, everything’s been stripped. The frame is pretty decent but the tray is done. Paint is coming off and it’s in pretty rough shape. $300 and I dragged it home.
So far I’ve bleached it and pressure washed it over and over, wire brushed the frame a little (just getting started on that) and cut off the golf bag holders. The rear brakes were locked up too so I removed them for now. Also replaced the tires. The old wheels were crazy rusted out. 20180712/8bd899f374957e8496803e39f9ed8d59.jpg[/IMG] Club Car DS driver’s club #59 |

So- the first question- what have people done about replacing the seats on these things? I feel like if I just make new boards and staple vinyl and foam they won’t look as luxurious as they used to.

Re: Yamaha G3E Sun Classic rebuild
I started working on welding up a new battery tray and repairing the frame, and I mounted a 0-5K potentiometer for the pedal. All of the electronics have been gutted on this thing.
The next challenge: getting the D&D motor to fit! I am going to have to drop the whole rear end to get it mounted. Club Car DS driver’s club #59 |

Re: Yamaha G3E Sun Classic rebuild
G3e was a copy of the G1e electrical. Straight resistor coil control with reversing contactors for F&R. Never had a potentiometer or controller, or anything like that. Amazingly, the G5e sunclassic was also resistor powered (but had shifter controled rotary F&R), even tho G8e & G9e solid state controller was easily on the table for that G5e build. I have always wondered why G5e wasn't a "controller" cart, must have been cost. But I wonder about that too considering how many G5e electrical parts were unique to the G5e.

I was wondering if it was a reversing contractor is some kind. So the FNR was controlled by the key switch? I wish there was a diagram. Club Car DS driver’s club #59 |
