Default 88 EZ GO marathon: dump box, stretch, and ATV front suspension

First post here. I’ve had this machine for a few years, and it’s been a pretty good workhorse and runabout on our 20-acre property. I initially replaced a worn primary clutch and a blown headgasket, cleaned the carb, and put a fresh battery in it. More recently, I dug into my scrap steel rack and built a dump box and hitch for it. The machine became a lot more useful, but it became clear I’d need to stretch it in order to distribute the load properly. Here’s what I came up with, using some more steel leftovers and half of a frame from a Suzuki LTZ400. I think the only new materials I purchased were a sheet of plywood and a couple feet of cold-roll hex stock (to make steering tie rods.)

No miles on it yet; waiting for a longer throttle cable to arrive and the holidays are holding up shipping.

One “before” photo and three “after.” I guess I can't be trusted to embed images from a remote host until I've been a member for a week, so these fuzzy attachments will have to suffice.

Love it! Another actual work cart! We are a VERY small group here.

Hah, yeah. Having fun is great, but nothing beats utility. Ive used this thing to pull concrete mixers, boats, utility trailers, wood chippers, etc. I can weasel it into places it would be impractical or impossible to take a small pickup or skid loader.

I was looking at the engine cradle when I pulled it out to stretch the cart, and I bet it would take me the better part of an evening to mount up a 440 sled engine. At this point, Id rather leave it alone and focus on more important projects.

For utility, a little 2 cylinder Kubota or other diesel would be sweet. Run for 20-30 years and work for half a year on a tank of fuel!

We got 6-8in of snow the other day, and I was briefly tempted to weld the diff. Instead, I threw some V-bar chains at it. Seems like this thing will claw through anything now, as long as I can keep the belt from scooping too much snow into the primary pulley. I’ll probably let the lakes firm up for another couple weeks before I go rod around on the ice and harass fishermen.

Looking good!! Can you build a snow deflector underneath for the belt? That, [the belt drive] is the curse of gas carts. Fit your chains to the tires and you can get rid of the bungee cord!
