99 TXT rehab
Years ago I started a medalist frame off restoration but due to my first child being born I had to sell and put other priorities first. Fast forward 6 years and I have acquired a 99 EZ GO TXT for free. It was in a serious state of disrepair. Yes I could probably buy something in better condition and upgrade here and there but I enjoy the journey this entails Batteries were shot. Controller was shot. Seats were shot. Had a heavy homemade rear seat I removed and tossed.
Plan is a ground up rebuild with lift, 48v convert, altrax controller and all the other goodies from scottyb (SD solenoid, hd reversing contactor, 2 ga wires). Haven't decided on exact wheel/tire combo yet. Gonna keep the stock motor till it gives up the ghost then decide which to upgrade. So far I've stripped it down. Found the passenger side dash frame rail completely rusted in half. Got that welded up. Fresh coat of paint on the frame, 6" drop axle lift installed and piecing back together now. Put some new front dampeners on. Got my digital from scottyb installed today and starting to prep the front cowl for paint. I'm going to try out the duplicolor "paint shop" series of products. I've never painted anything before so somewhat excited. Since we all love pictures here's some of where I'm at to date... Sent from my Moto E (4) Plus using Tapatalk |

Re: 99 TXT rehab
Got a little more work done. Scuffed and had to do a lot of body filling.
I've never painted anything beyond spray painting before. I utterly failed at my first attempt with body filler. I picked up a harbor freight hvlp gun and I'm using dupli-color paint shop system and wasn't happy with the primer. After lots of sanding I hit it with Rust-Oleum high build /filler spray bomb primer last night and am very pleased with the results. Hopefully get some paint sprayed in the next few days. Re: 99 TXT rehab
Got some paint layed yesterday. Clearing it Saturday. It's far from perfect as I have found out the only thing I hate worse than drywall mud work is body work.

Re: 99 TXT rehab
Got some more work done (now all that's left is the expensive stuff
After wanting to vomit at the thought of what new seat foam cost or even sourcing foam from a local upholster, I lucked out and stopped in a local cart shop I'd found out was right around the corner from my house. The owner donated me some seats with good foam. The fabric and wood were done for but that didn't matter as I already cut the wood from some plywood. Bit the bullet and bought a new steeling rear seat. Turns out I have some special rear roof supports. They don't flare out like many and are just straight upright upside down "L" shaped so I can't get that part finished. Going to swing in and see if the owner of the local shop is willing to part with the rear supports on the junker he donated the seats from. Then it's into wheels/tires, controller, wiring, reversing contactor, solenoid and batteries. |
