Question Beginning the Golf Cart hunt - OMG

I am new to the golf cart world but I just moved to a community that uses golf carts and my friend just introduced me to them. Now its my turn and I am very overwhelmed at so much information about Golf carts. So far, I know I want an electric golf cart. There are many hills in the community and I don't want a slow one. I like the lifted carts and I would like to go fast (20-25). I am looking for a used golf cart but don't know if one brand is better than another. Any of you great experienced golf cart members have advice on what I should look at when purchasing a golf cart? It would help me have some knowledge of what to look for. Thanks putput1

Howdy put... Stick with Club Car, Yamaha or Ez Go. Stay away from the Chinese brands.

Welcome to the nut house.

If you are going electric a few things you might want to watch for:
1. Battery age? The newer the better
2. Is it controler or wiper board? Controler is much better.
3. Suspension pieces. All tight with good groment where there are susposed to be some.
4. Frame work under the batteries? Is it rusted out from the batery acid?
5. What year is the cart? Older ones are 36 volt and newer ones are 48 volts.
6. Body damage? Does it need polished out or replaced or somewhere inbetween?
7. Safety features? Steering works well and tight, brakes in good working order and when were they last replace?
8. Added features? Has someone already installed lights, horn, etc and a voltage converter to run those items?
9. Tires? New, well worn, or how about missing altogether?

There are many more things to watch for and the experts on here can lead you in the right direction. Before you buy ask a lot of questions. Search the threads on here and get an idea of what others have run into when buying used and try to keep this in mind when looking at a potential "buyer" cart.

Good luck... Rodger

Thanks for your advice. Rodger, thanks for the tips. I took a look at one today and the person selling it knew less than I did. I asked if it was 36 or 48 volts and he had no idea. He was asking for quite a bit of mulah and the cart had no seatbelts, no horn, no turn signals and no guide that tells me how much charge is left. He also had no paper work on the cart and wasn't sure about a lot of things so I decided to keep looking.

The hunt continues........

it also depends on how much you want to spend and if you want to upgrade it yourself

Get your friend, or someone else knowledgeable on carts, to go with you.
