Rodney Jr's G2 or R2G2
Over the past several months, my Father (Rodney Sr.) has been wroking on his house, building a new room (what use to be a deck, that was going to be a new deck, but ended up turning into a new media room). Well, helping him out in the afternoons and over the week ends paid off the other week when we went over to a local horse farm and he picked up an '89 Yami G2 (the owner was told that the "oil pump" was going out - yeah right) so he picked it up for $200 and he picked it up on his way home from work the next day. He has a '91 CC DS and we just recently got the motor back from being rebuilt so we will be getting it back together so he can take the Grandchildren out riding around. He gave me the Yami and after a day of riding it around (and not a minute to tale one picute of it), I started stripping it down. I have typical rust I guess you would say for a nearly 19 year old cart around the battery area but overall the car is in decent shape. The front upper cowl is a little beat up (I have a new one ordered, along with several other pieces) and have put together a list of parts and mods that I plan on doing to it to make it fun for both me and the kid (yeah, like it is for the kids....). I bought a Jake's 6" lift kit and a set of 22" x 11" x 10" tires and wheels and have to order a few other bits such as (new bolts as I had to cut a couple of the a-arm bolts out due to rust) tie rod end, king pins and shocks (F&R). I am a manufacturing engineer by trade for the heavy truck industry and have worked in automotive for nearly 20 years, so designing and fabricating are my forte'. So I have started planning my own brush guards / bumpers / rollbar / rear bed and other goodies. I think it will be a fun project to work with, definately something diferent than what I have worked on in the past. I usually work on watercooled VW's. So here are pic's of R2G2 as it is right now.

I will post a lot of pics of the progress. I will be stripping the chassis all the way down and media blasting it to remove all rust, dirt and paint. After I get all the new metal bracketry welded on, it will get ecoated and powder coated. I plan for the bed to be completely removable within a matter of a few minutes. I do plan to install a B&S V-Twin in the future too.

Re: Rodney Jr's G2 or R2G2
I spent about 30 minutes or so late this evening in the garage taking the front steering apart. I took the king pins out of the knuckles and removed the steering box off of the chassis. I also removed the gas pedal from the chassis as well (will have to drill & tap one of the mounting nuts as one of the bolts broke off - but there are many of them on this cart). With my migraine (or whatever the he double "L" it is - been going on for about 3-1/2 months and awaiting for results from the MRI's from Friday), I don't feel like doing much. So I am sitting here drinking an ice cold Yuengling and have came up with a trick rear tilt bed idea. I have a hydraulic pump / motor & cylinder(s) setup off of a 2000 VW Cabrio that was used for the power top, that I am thinking about using to tilt the bed into service position for accessing the motor and transmission. It is either going to be for that or a retracting potato gun (yeah it's a thought ). Depending on how I feel tomorrow, I may get out there and continue the dismantling.

Re: Rodney Jr's G2 or R2G2
Well, hopefully next week sometime, I will be able to get back to working on the cart. By then, I should feel better than I have been and when I do start working on it, there will be a lot of pics (my hobby is photography), I just have to get my real camera equipment back from my Baby Brother who is a pro-photographer. He borrows my equipment because I have a lot of good stuff - especially for a hobby.
Here are a few pics from my trip to Germany back in May: ... and one from last year with a point and shoot camera... |
